Methods were proposed by Born/Jordan, Kirkwood, and Weyl. There are, however, some separate topics on this sub…ject covered in the mathematical literature. For instance, the elementary theory of holomorphic vector functions.and mappings on Banach spaces is presented in the monographs of E. Hille and R. Phillips [1] and L. Schwartz [1], whereas some results on Banach algebras of holomorphic functions and holomorphic operator-functions are discussed in the books of W. Rudin [1] and T. Kato [1]. Apparently, the need to study holomorphic mappings in infinite dimensional spaces arose for the first time in connection with the development of nonlinear anal ysis. A systematic study of integral equations with an analytic nonlinear part was started at the end ofthe 19th and the beginning ofthe 20th centuries by A. Liapunov, E. Schmidt, A. Nekrasov and others. Their research work was directed towards the theory of nonlinear waves and used mainly the undetermined coefficients and the majorant power series methods. The most complete presentation of these methods comes from N. Nazarov. In the forties and fifties the interest in Liapunov's and Schmidt's analytic methods diminished temporarily due to the appearence of variational calculus meth ods (M. Golomb, A. Hammerstein and others) and also to the rapid development of the mapping degree theory (J. Leray, J. Schauder, G. Birkhoff, O. Kellog and others). 284 pp. Englisch.

Within the small area of Bad Nauheim, Giessen and Marburg (in alphabetical order) a greater concentration of students of thenno regulation has been trained or worked or is working than probably in any other single area of Europe, if not the world. It is thus most appropriate to hold the Ninth International Symposium on the Pharmacology of Thennoregulation in Giessen, from August 7 to 12, 1994. The community of students of thennoregulation was extremely grateful that Professor Kurt Bruck and the lustus-Liebig-University of Giessen had extended this invitation. The same community was even more saddened that Kurt Bruck died on April 27, 1992 and thus could not participate in this event that had been planned to honour his achievements. As a small token of friendship and affection, the many friends of Kurt Bruck from all over the world who will participate in this event dedicate this symposium to the memory of Kurt Bruck. Another staunch friend, researcher of temperature regulation and supporter of this series of symposia died in October 1993: Professor Wilhelm Siegmund Feldberg. The evolution of the three-dimensional simulation tools is directly linked to the scaling of the devi…ces and the increasing complex ity of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) cells. Scaling of MOSFET devices led to a three-dimensional geometry with effects which cannot be handled by two-dimensional simulations anymore. With increasing integration density in DRAMs the third dimen sion had to be utilized to realize the storage capacitor. The result ing leakage problems have to be investigated and the cell design optimized by means of three-dimensional simulations. The book will give an overview on the problems and activities con cerning three-dimensional device simulation, without the claim of being a classical textbook. It starts from the classical semiconduc tor equations, discusses the physical models used in device simu lation, describes the discretization and some numerical methods for solving the differential equations. In particular, the theory applies to arbitrary unbounded, non-smooth domains. For this reason, in the nonlinear case, we have to restrict ourselves to space dimensions n=2,3 that are also most signi cant from the physical point of view. For mathematical generality, we will develop the l- earized theory for all n 2. Although the functional-analytic approach developed here is, in principle, known to specialists, its systematic treatment is not available, and even the diverseaspectsavailablearespreadoutintheliterature.However,theliterature is very wide, and I did not even try to include a full list of related papers, also because this could be confusing for the student.
