Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Giorgio Andreotta Calò (Venice, 1979) has distinguished himself on the contemporary art scene by developing a unique artistic language. Traditional working methods of sculpture are completely revitalized in his works and combined with artistic practices of the 1970s in such a way that the process of creation becomes a central aspect of the work and indeed its primary subject. His oeuvre includes sculpture, large-scale environmental installations and spatial interventions that transform buildings or entire landscapes and are often designed to be included in a rich patchwork of self-referencing connections, not least through the use of natural elements rife with symbolic significance, like water, light and fire. His work is the result of a long exploration of materials - both traditional, like bronze and wood, and more unusual, like caranto clay, the layer on which the city of Venice stands - as well the associated working techniques and their origin. His interest in organic materials links his works to current international debates on the use and dispersal of raw materials and themes of socio-ecological change.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Subjugated, exalted, sublimated, transcended - the Other has always characterized human, psychological, and material investigation, because it is impossible to fully understand it, but at the same time it visualizes that part of us that we are not willing to recognize. It begins exactly where our consciousness ends; it invades the limit where we are not, but where the realization of the Human is accomplished, with its psychological and carnal zone. The author wanted to explore the interstices-Other of fashion: deconstruction, the post-human condition, the corporeality, the ritual, the savage mind, and finally the inform dimension, to dissect ravines still unexplored, because they are imperceptible if investigated by a dimension conscious, but they acquire immense weight if we move the analysis of fashion to a strictly more unconscious, therefore instinctive, therefore human level.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The contemporary artists featured in this book include John Akomfrah, La Vaughn Belle, Manthia Diawara, Jeannette Ehlers, Michelle Eistrup, Sasha Huber, Oceana James, Patricia Kaersenhout, Grada Kilomba, Suchitra Mattai, and Alberta Whittle, who are all at the forefront of decolonial thinking. Through their artworks, they convey compelling narratives that shed light on the entangled colonial histories that connect Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas. Collectively, these artists provide crucial insight into some of the lesser-known aspects of colonial history, such as Norwegian involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. The artists featured in this book convey unique resistance stories about fearless freedom fighters such as Venus Johannes, Mary Thomas, Olaudah Equiano, and Anna Heegaard, thereby allowing for a deeper, more nuanced understanding of colonial history than the historical narratives that have typically been told from a Western perspective. These are stories of resistance that help, at least partially, to set the historical records straight. By highlighting the stories of those who have been historically silenced, we gain access to a more nuanced understanding of colonial history and the factors which have contributed to the continued effects of colonialism today, most evidently witnessed in the prevalence of racism, poverty, and forced migration. Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The wide and articulated exhibition project, which placed the theme of 'light' as a symbolic, meta-physical, artistic archetype at the center of the investigation, gave rise to a new reflection on the works of Christian Boltanski and placed them in dialogue with the works of Shay Frisch resulting in an exhibition itinerary that winds on the noble floor of the Palace. A project that unfolds on different lines, parallel but autonomous, which analyzes the same relationship from several angles, linked to the aesthetic experience but also to the languages of the contemporary. It is a direct dialogue between Christian Boltanski's luminous non-light charged with mnemonic values, which become shadows, ghosts, strong symbols and Shay Frisch's electrical fields with their energetic charge, the evocative forms and the conceptual declinations deriving from his archetypal language. Light as pure energy, a unique stream of memory that receives meanings from darkness. While Boltanski amplifies the emblematic value of objects in his reflection, Frisch bends the iconography by drawing a new meaning from it. The decorative element becomes, for both artists, useless, amorphous, to be rewritten.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - An aesthetic investigation of environmental complexity through a selection of works realized by the Spanish artist since 1998.Published in conjunction with the solo show at Pirelli HangarBicocca, this constitutes the most complete monographic study on Daniel Steegmann Mangrané (Barcelona, 1977). Covering his work from the late 1990s to the present with over a hundred installations, drawings, sculptures, photographs and films, the catalogue includes studies by the art historians Kaira M. Cabañas and Flora Katz, and a conversation between the artist and the writer and curator Lauren Cornell as well as texts by Nathalie Ergino, director of the Institut d'art contemporain (Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes), and the curators of the show at Pirelli HangarBicocca, Lucia Aspesi and Fiammetta Griccioli.Daniel Steegmann Mangrané's work is characterized by a poetic approach in which geometric and abstract forms intersect with natural elements and originate an imaginary realm with recurrent motifs like leaves, trees and insects that prompt reflection on the reality we inhabit. The artist uses different media for the creation of his works, according priority to a modus operandi whereby technical characteristics are intrinsically intertwined with the process of production.Mangrané's interest in biology has led him to investigate complex ecological systems and introduce the natural world into his works with numerous references to the rain forest in Brazil, including branches, leaves and insects. Combined with geometric shapes and abstract motifs, these prompt reflection on the complex dynamics of the elements surrounding us.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Ghada Amer (born in 1963 in Cairo) is an Egyptian painter and embroiderer. She studied at the Villa Arson in Nice and at the Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques in Paris. The increasing oppression of women in Egypt and the exclusionary experience of sexism at art school in France inspired in Amer a resolute rebellion against patriarchy that would motivate and propel her artistic strategy for decades to come. With a background in painting, influenced in particular by abstract expressionism, she then decided turn to embroidery as a strategy for infiltrating the male space of painting with a material of traditional female expertise. She bases her early work on the images of female figures found in magazines, thus exploring the construction of the place occupied by women, sexuality, and love in contemporary societies. Her embroidery is loose, threads dangle from the canvas, provoking a pictorial effect resembling that of Pollock's dripping. Her recent work merges text and imagery in her embroidered paintings, layering famous quotations and pithy aphorisms-often regarding themes surrounding women and power-with close-up portraits of women's faces. For Amer, embroidery has been the symbol of her lifelong revolt-a tool for fighting women's exclusion from the rarefied space of painting. That revolt has been the impetus for her to forge new ground, not only in the arena of painting, but in sculpture, ceramics, and earthworks as well. She currently lives and works between New York and Paris and has exhibited among others at the Venice Biennale, the Sydney Biennale, the Whitney Biennale, and the Brooklyn Museum.

The ones from Murano have preserved traces of their ancient meanings, which is what beguiled Pierre Rosenberg, a leading collector of these small yet precious objets d'art The 20th century gave birth to a vast bestiary of glass that derived from virtually every sector of international artisanal production. These glass animals from Murano, whose richness and variety are revealed by the exhibition scheduled in Venice and the accompanying catalogue, are from the Pierre Rosenberg Collection, one of the most extraordinary, technically virtuosic and wide-ranging of its kind, with some wonderful touches of humour. The increase in the production of glass animals was linked to the growing popularity of small bronze or ceramic zoomorphic sculptures in middle-class homes from the 19th century on. These more or less realistic or extremely stylized 'portraits' of animals are, in fact, quite recent in the millenary history of glass, though such objects and ornaments have existed since antiquity. Besides the factory-produced pieces, the end of the 20th century saw artists working in glass make their contributions to this relatively recent branch of animal sculpture. The Pierre Rosenberg Collection offers some remarkable examples and diverse types of zoomorphic creations, which are all part of this modern 'Noah's Ark' of glass.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - This book presents the 16th century cartoons of Gaudenzio Ferrari and his school, a valuable collection that arrived at the Pinacoteca dell'Accademia Albertina in Turin in 1832, as a donation from King Charles Albert of Savoy. It consists of a collection of fifty-nine preparatory drawings, some quite large, which mainly relate to important paintings by Gaudenzio Ferrari, Bernadino Lanino, Gerolamo Giovenone and Giuseppe Giovenone the Younger. This is a unique collection of cartoons that has remained preserved for centuries despite its fragility, and that enables us to enter the workshops of the 16th century to find out about art education in the Renaissance, before the arrival of the modern Academies of Fine Arts. The book includes a historical essay by Giovanni Testori and previously unpublished essays by Andreina Griseri and Simone Baiocco, and offers the reader a feast of beauty, with large photographs of all 59 drawings, printed in high resolution for the first time.

He began painting in the studio of his father Ungno Lee before going on to attend the Grande Chaumière and then the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. While resolutely modern, his work is rooted in the Asian tradition in both thematic and technical terms. His primary source of inspiration is nature, addressed in a free and non-formal way. Water, stone, earth and bark are revealed through the effects of natural inks of Korean origin on Hanji paper, traditional Korean paper made from the bark of the paper mulberry tree. Using a printing technique he developed himself, Young-sé Lee places paper soaked in ink and water on thick wood blocks previously engraved with abstract motifs. The paper placed on the block thus picks up its grain, traces and forms in such a way that the sculptor's action and the original texture of the roughly hewn wood become visible. Together with the fluidity of the ink, the combination of this coarse physicality and the nobility of the paper on which it leaves its imprint endows his works with a harmony balanced between strength and lightness. Verging on the intangible, they invite the viewer's contemplation.
