Next page has a Foreword by the authors who explain how over a period of about 25 years they did collect various and sundry photo's, negatives, tape recordings, advertising, and stories from many former "ladies of the night" and others from the American West, and how this is their attempt to tell these stores through the photos and voices of the people and places that made it what it was. The truth, good and bad. And also what the "Brass checks" are and how the "red light districts" did get that name. The book has dozens of interesting photos and a few color advertisements. Each photo has a full caption explaining who and what are contained in each one.
