Probably unread. Previous owner's signature on ffe. Juan José Millás has always felt like he doesn't quite fit into human society. Sometimes he w…onders if he is even a Homo sapiens at all. Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. Brand new SIGNED hardback copy. 1st edition 1st printing.Published by Scribe 2021. Hand-signed and hand-numbered. this copy has been hand-signed by the author and hand numbered as one of only 1000 copies thus signed (number 913). People say 'I'm sorry' all the time when it… can mean both 'I'm sorry I hurt you' and 'I'm sorry someone else did something I have nothing to do with'. It's like the English language gave up on trying to find a word for sympathy which wasn't also the word for guilt. Swedish immigrant Kristin won't talk about the Project growing inside her. Her Brazilian-born Scottish boyfriend Ciaran won't speak English at all; he is trying to immerse himself in a Swedish språkbad language bath, to prepare for their future. Their Edinburgh flat is starting to feel very small. As this young couple is forced to confront the thing that they are both avoiding, they must reckon with the bigger questions of the world outside, and their places in it. We pack our books properly and ship daily from the UK. Signed by Author(s).

International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs…less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Louise Omer was a Pentecostal preacher and faithful wife. But when her marriage crumbled, so did her beliefs. Haunted by questions about what it means to be female in religion that worships a male God, she left behind a church and home to ask women around the world: how can we exist in a patriarchal religion? And can a woman be holy? With less than £300 in her pocket and the conviction that she was following a divine path, Louise began a pilgrimage that has taken her to Mexican basilicas, Swedish cathedrals, Bulgarian mountains, and Moroccan mosques. Holy woman combines travel writing, feminist theology, and confessional memoir to interrogate modern religion and give a raw and personal exploration of spiritual life under patriarchy. Ref UU 4.

Trade Paperback. Condición: Mint. First Edition. This mint unread copy is bound in cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine, tight, white, bright and square. The unclipped dust wrapper is in mint condition. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs less…then postage will be reduced accordingly. Where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased charges will be quoted. Paul Robeson was a brilliant student and champion athlete who abandoned a career in law to find worldwide fame as a performer and activist. He was undoubtedly the most famous African American of his time before losing everything for the sake of his principles. The son of a former slave, Robeson's life took him to Hollywood via the Harlem Renaissance and London's West End. While he stunned audiences with his performances of 'Ol' Man River' and Othello, he also championed social justice around the world, travelling from the coal-mining towns of Wales, to the frontiers of the Spanish Civil War, and to the Soviet Union. Yet privately Robeson was a troubled figure, burdened by his role as a symbol for the African-American people and an international advocate for the working class. His stratospheric rise would reach its end in the courtroom of the McCarthy hearings. Today, Robeson is largely unknown, his legacy obscured by the forces of history that destroyed him. Jeff Sparrow traces Robeson's career, showing how his remarkable life tells the story of the twentieth century and illuminates today's reality. From Black Lives Matter to Putin's United Russia, Sparrow explores questions of race in America, political freedom in Moscow, and the legacy of communism in Europe. Part travelogue, part biography, it is a story of political ardour, heritage, and trauma ? a luminous portrait of a man and an urgent reflection on the politics that define us now. Ref AAA7.

Trade Paperback. Condición: Mint. First Edition. This copy is in mint, unread condition, bright, white, tight and square, in illustrated card covers as issued. Can you really rewire an adult brain? In theory the answer is yes, but there's a problem: no one seems to know exactly how to do it. In Override, Caroline Williams goes o…n a mission to find out. Neuroplasticity dictates that the brain adapts physically as we learn something new. But although brain training may be all the rage, the latest studies indicate that it doesn't actually do much to make you smarter. So what does? Visiting top neuroscientists in their labs, Williams volunteers herself as a guinea pig, challenging researchers to make real changes to her imperfect brain. She seeks to improve on weaknesses such as her limited attention span and tendency to worry too much, and then branches out into more mysterious areas such as intelligence, creativity, and the perception of time. Trying everything from high-tech brain stimulation to meditation, adding bolt-on senses and retraining her stress response, Override is an intimate, fascinating journey into discovering what neuroscience can really do for us.
