Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Marina Gadonneixs work weaves a complex link between documentary and fiction through photographs of places given over to temporary neglect. The House That Burns Everyday recalls a fable whose story, in ashes, would no longer reach us. Marina Gadonneix has chosen to haunt a dummy house used by firemen to become familiar with fire and fighting it. In short, a room of fiction. Fire has raged, soon it will flare up again. In this interstice, Gadonneix collects these artificial ruins. From a distance, the spectator can cope with the worst. The worst, in this work, is always yet to come. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Editor and collector Timothy Prus has been interested in amateur found images long before the subject was picked up and accepted in most of contemporary art. He has gathered over 4 million images and released them in dozens of publications under the title "Archives of Modern Conflict". The Luton Auguries began with the purchase of the newspaper archives of the city of Luton. From this vast source material, Timothy Prus selects and assembles a series of images, creating a surrealist storyline. Applying invented legends to the stories in the images, he invites the viewer into the fantasy of the narrative he creates.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Other People by David Horvitz is a series of digital photographs gathered online using facial recognition software. By searching with images of his own face, Horvitz uncovered mismatches: photographs of strangers mistakenly identified by artificial intelligence as him. These images raise questions about the ethical gray areas of image databases, often monetized without the knowledge or consent of those depicted. Drawing inspiration from research on training materials used by East German border guards at Checkpoint Charlie, preserved in the Wende Museum's collection, this project explores the implications of technology and identity in the age of artificial intelligence. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. BETTER FOOD FOR OUR FIGHTING MEN contains a selection of images, produced mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, from the archives of the U. S. Armys Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center near Boston, Massachusetts. The center is still operational today, and employs both military personnel and civilian contractors in its mission to improve the daily livesand dietsof American soldiers. For the worlds most formidable army, feeding the troops is fraught with logistical, psychological and food safety challenges. Bacteria is an enemy; supply chains are vital, intricate delivery systems. The goal is to provide sustenance and boost morale across the full range of terrain and troop configurations, from mess halls for the officers and selfservice buffets for the rank-and-file to battlefield canteens and survival rations for commandos behind enemy lines.Solving this logistical puzzle is like trying to stuff a square peg into a round hole: once you have devised ways to optimize the daily nutritional requirements of the bodies in question, you need to work out the best solutions for preserving and transporting the food, and still guarantee a minimum level of flavor to keep the soldiers happy.A glossary with 24 entries explains some of the acronyms used in the image captions, describes the staples of a typical soldiers diet and traces the new technologies that enabled the food industry to manufacture and supply those rations. As a material for their photo collages and installations the French artists Elise Mazac and Robert Drowilal, known as the art duo Mazaccio and Drowilal, use popular images of contemporary culture that are intentionally torn from their usual context. With the help of diverse techniques, deliberately bright colors, and irony, the artists transform these images and question the conventional principles of artistic photography. The book "Paparazzi" is putting together celebrities photographs stolen by paparazzi rearranging in the book form through different collage, working on typography, colours and shapes accompanied by explicit titles "The Beach", "Bike Riding", "Surfing". By juxtaposing heterogeneous and often contradictory shots and blurring the boundaries between natural and artificial, Mazaccio and Drowilal provoke the viewer, who is doomed to balance on the verge of disgust and pleasure when confronted by the authors' extraordinary artistic experiment.

"59 Positions" is a 20-minute video, filmed in 1992 using a stationary camera in an empty, unadorned room with a concrete floor, consisting of fragments of actions each lasting just a few seconds, in which we glimpse the artist Erwin Wurm and his friends bundled up in sweaters, pants and shirts, seemingly oblivious to the usual purposes of these articles of clothing. Their bodies are contorted into ridiculous poses, under the influence of a strange choreography made up of motionless objects that tremble almost imperceptibly. Wurm thus aims to explore whether a physical action can become a sculpture and if so, at what point the transition takes place. By making use of looped sequences without movement, his aim was to find out if and when this transformation might happen. Wurm was so impressed by the visual force and immediacy of these curious anthropomorphic forms that he decided to create a series of colour photographs based on this video, thus reconnecting with this medium in which he had often worked in the 1980s. After "Self-Portrait as 47 Pickles", "59 Positions" is the second title in the series of artists books by Erwin Wurm published by RVB Books. The eighteen landscapes featured in this book were conceived in October 2020 during a photography workshop led by Alexandre Guirkinger and arranged by the art center and publisher Le Point du Jour in partnership with the non-profit organization Itinerance. Six migrants having recently settled in Cherbourg and receiving assistance from Itinerance took part in the workshop. Ahmed Agadaguib, Fahim Ahmed, Mamadou Bailo Bah, Amine Djouadi, Abdullakh Ushurov and Abdulfahim Zahiri first identified the places having made a distinct impression on them from their arrival in the city, that they visit every day, that they especially like, or that typify France for them. Following an initial scouting phase, the landscapes were produced using an 8-by-10-inch view camera in dialogue with Alexandre Guirkinger. All of the participants printed contact sheets for their photographs and then wrote captions for them in their native languages.
