Reissue ed. Hardback large quarto, no jacket as issued, very good plus condition (in very good plus slipcase), quarter bound leather, raised bands with gilt decoration on spine, dark bone cloth covered boards & slipcase, tipped-in colour and black & white plates, foldout map at rear. In slipcase (sepia or brown-tinted) vignette with gilt circle). Heavy (1.2 Kg), and extra postage may be requested to destinations outside Australia. 202 pp. Note from publisher Queensberry Hill Press: William Adams Brodribb published his diary (Recollections of an Australian Squatter) at Sydney in 1883 in an octavo edition of 238 pages, now a choice item of Australiana, with valuable source material on early pastoral development and the exploration and settlement of Gippsland. In re-issuing the book, the title page and the single page preliminary Index have been omitted. Whilst the format has been enlarged, the text is word for word from the first edition. A more comprehensive Index has been compiled and a map showing the remoter grazing districts in 1844 has been included. Lavinia Hasell Bennett, nee Brodribb, received this diary from elder brother William in 1835. The main entry, of 60 pages (The Journey to Gippsland), written under difficult conditions in pencil, records the trials and tribulations of the first overlanding of cattle from Port Phillip to Gippsland in 1844; it was first transcribed in 1965 by Mr I. T. Maddern, Morwell, Victoria. The diary is now in the possession of Mrs Joan Shelton, of Glenroy, Victoria, a great granddaughter of Lavinia Bennett. (No.117 of a limited edition of 350 copies. Combined length, 202 pages.).…
