Añadir al carritoHard Cover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. First edition. A couple minor blemishes to boards. 2000 Hard Cover. 72 pp. This beautifully produced book is sculptor David Nash's response to the 300-year-old yews in the gardens of Powis Castle. After decades - in some cases centuries - without trimming some 20 yews by the castle have grown into fantastic, organic shapes not usually associated with the formally trained yews of traditional gardens. The plasticity of these striking trees instantly challenged Nash when he first saw them: now the resulting drawings, reliefs, and sculptures are collected here, together with a brief essay by Nash and a short history of the Powis Castle gardens by art historian Sarah Blomfield. The text is bilingual, in English and Welsh.

Añadir al carrito0 32 p. Often exhibited but seldom written about, Kenneth Rowntree (1915-97) is a significant figure in the history of British art and design. Of a generation now increasingly recognized and reappraised, Rowntree's contribution is celebrated in a book devoted to his work. Rowntree's art was closely bound to the events of his time. World War II linked the artist to government policy, demanding a genre that celebrated a British life-style then at risk and also a public art of communal experience and shared values. His ability to express humanity, wit and specific qualities of time, place and local style made his work immediate, intelligible and enjoyable in difficult times. The post-war vision in art, architecture and education provided settings for Rowntree's experimental constructions and an adjustment towards design. Very good. light shelfwear, ex-museum stamp to blank flyleaf.
