Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This book is for people who are about to have heart bypass surgery, those who have just been through the ordeal, and those who are to care for a bypass patient. Based on the experience of fourteen informants, the book tells of life before the operation, the decision to have heart bypass surgery, preparation for hospital life, and recovery afterwards. It blends the patient's widely differing experiences with the surgeon's expectations, advice and technical demands, and the work of nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other paramedical experts in the recovery from heart surgery. Most people are shocked the the thought that they must have heart bypass surgery. While some feel resigned to their fate, others put on a heroic front; sadness engulfs a few, others are relieved to know what their ailment is, and some become angry. Most want to know why. As a rule, the cost of surgery and hospitalisation is not important to them. They want to know if they are going to survive. Although there are signs and warnings of heart trouble, it seems that rarely do most people have much time to prepare for a heart bypass operation, and to make decisions about which surgeons and hospitals to employ. The bypass operation itself is major surgery. It is such a shocking surgical procedure that as one of the younger informants said, "you wouldn't want to know about it", but curiously enough the operation is not as frightening as you might think. Why? The decision to operate is swift, clear, and out of your hands; as one woman informant observed years later, "Whatever goes on, it's better than the alternative!" This book helps patients prepare for the operation and for the recovery by sharing the experiences of others, and by outlining the professional help and personal care that are readily available when required. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Australian workforce is amazingly diverse, with men and women bringing a huge range of cultural backgrounds, skills and life experiences to their jobs. But this diversity, with all its potential for cleverness and creativity, is not reflected in the ranks our of senior business and corporate leaders.Amanda Sinclair argues that Australian organisations are clinging to an outdated concept of leadership. We expect our leaders to be a certain type of person-a tough, heterosexual male. Drawing on interviews with senior executives, male and female, she shows convincingly why our faith in this traditional style of leadership is so strong-and misplaced.Doing Leadership Differently is essential reading for both established and aspiring executives and managers. It offers a challenging and original analysis of-. why the traditional style of leadership has failed us. how men as well as women can benefit from understanding how gender shapes leadership style. how to put power and sexuality at the heart of effective leadership. ways of widening the pool of Australian leadership talent. We expect our leaders to be a certain type of person-a tough, heterosexual male. Drawing on interviews with senior executives, male and female, Amanda Sinclair shows convincingly why our faith in this traditional style of leadership is so strong-and misplaced. Doing Leadership Differently is essential reading for both established and aspiring executives and managers. Hardback. Condición: Very Good. This history of Australia tells the whole story of the Great Southern Land, from its Aboriginal origins to 1997, including: discovery by European navigators who claimed the land as their own - even though it was already inhabited; the First Fleet, convict settlements, the gold rushes and turn-of-the-century questions about whether Australia could be a perfect society; the birth-pangs of a federated nation, and the experience of Australians in the world's wars; and continuing tension over links with Britain, massive post-war immigration, successes and problems of the 20th century, and the celebration of a distinctly Australian way of life. Weldon, Andrew (ilustrador).

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Turnbull's privileged existence, helped by marrying into one of Sydney's most storied families, obscures a tough childhood and precocious talent. Left or right? Many Liberals believe Turnbull admirer of Jack Lang, mentored by Neville Wran, feted by Paul Keating ;joined the wrong party. Popular or unpopular? Years at the top of preferred leader polls do not dispel a sense Turnbull is not one of us. The future PM? On-again, off-again, for more than a decade Turnbull has seemed destined for the country's top job. Now, perhaps, it is closer than ever. If Prime Minister, what would Turnbull do? Turnbull has been subject of many profiles, but the full story of his life has never been told. In an unauthorised biography, Sydney journalist Paddy Manning reveals the true character of one of Australia's most celebrated overachievers: journalist, lawyer, businessman, politician. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The diaries of Parson James Woodforde (1740-1803) have been a constant source of delight and amusement of thousands of readers since their first publication in a five-volume selection in the 1920s. The Norfolk parson's detailed and acute observations of English country life have ensured him a major place among the country classics of English literature. Ronald Blythe calls Woodforde "one of the most unforgettable characters of English literature." This new edition of selections from the diaries brings an entirely new dimension to the writings of this quintessentially English clergyman. As well as reprinting the most entertaining and amusing passages, this beautiful, oversized volume is lavishly illustrated with reproductions of paintings, watercolors, and engravings by such atritst as Constable, Cotman, and Crome, who were contemporaries of Parson Woodforde. There are also illustrations of portraits and documents relating to the Woodforde family and their friends as well as drawings of the church, houses, and landscapes the parson knew and decorations representing the country and culinary delights he so loved. Although the years covered by the diaries saw many momentous international events--the American and French revolutions, for example--Parson Woodforde's central concern was with the details and very distinct flavors of English village life. His gift for capturing those textures will undoubtedly enthrall a new generation of readers. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This book, the second in the series on the avifauna of Indonesia, introduces the reader to the most typical and colourful birds of the large islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan, whose dipterocarp forests of the lowlands and wetland forest of the coastal plains are particularly rich habitats. The main descriptions covering 148 species from nearly every bird family on the two islands, provide information on the plumage, behaviour, habitat, and distribution to enable the general naturalist to identify most of the birds found readily in the different habitats of the islands. Reference is also made in the text to a further 129 species to illustrate the range and variety of birds in each family. It is hoped that this book will encourage a greater interest in birds in particular, and wildlife in general, and foster an increased awareness of the need to protect an adequate area of some of the richest habitats in the world while there is still time. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Nash, Stephen (ilustrador).
