This is a Good Only Copy of this Book in full dark brown Leather Binding with five raised bands to spine and with black moroccan title label lettered in gilt to the spine's second compartment,other compartments have dulled gilt leaf designs.Outer borders of the book with leaf scroll gilt design.There is some weakness to the front hinge join and with some surface staining marks are present to the outer boards and with some fraying to the leather binding at tail and head of spine.There is one former owner's bookplate of William Phelps to the front pastedown and one small ink name of Phelps to the top edge of the front endpaper.Illustrated with black and white frontispiece of Subterraneous Temple in the County of Meath.There is some browning or offsetting to the title page and with browned and darkened edges to the front endpapers and pastedowns.Internal Contents have remained pleasantly clean and tidy throughout with some age toning to the text block edges and some spotting present but contained within the pre-lims.Hoare In introducing his narrative of his Irish journey,observed that in contrast to Wales and Scotland, 'the Island of Hibernia still remains unvisited and unknown. The lengthy preface and introduction provide an annotated list of previous works on Irish travel, geography, history, etc., as well as detailed history of the island, and a brief gazetteer for the tourist. Sir Richard Colt Hoare (1758-1838) was an English antiquarian, traveller, artist, and amateur archaeologist. He authored several travel accounts, of which this is the first. His first publication was a translation from the Latin of 'The Historical Works of Geraldus Cambrensis." Spine ends chipped, front joint crack but holding on cords, text very clean and else very good. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown with the motto: "Credunt quod vident".
