Hardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Ladybird 793 Garden Gang: Oliver Onion and Tim Tomato 1979 Author & Illustrator: Jayne Fisher Publisher: Ladybird Books Ltd, Loughborough Date: 1979 ISBN: 0721406041 / 9780721406046 Format: Hardcover with pictorial matt boards (no dust jacket issued) Pages: 52 A delightful and collectible volume from Jayne Fisher's famous Garden Gang series. Fisher became the youngest-ever author published by Ladybird at just nine years old. She both wrote and illustrated these charming stories featuring anthropomorphic fruit and vegetable characters living human-like lives. This book contains two complete stories: "Oliver Onion" (in which the sensitive onion causes tears in the local shop) and "Tim Tomato" (introducing the jolly, ever-smiling tomato who tries to cheer up his friends in the greenhouse). Fisher's bold, colourful felt-tip illustrations are instantly recognisable and full of personality. The bright blue front cover depicts Oliver Onion and Tim Tomato together, with the green speech-bubble title "Two stories from the Garden Gang." The rear cover shows the classic green Ladybird promotional text and series checklist. The front endpaper includes a black-and-white photograph of young Jayne Fisher and her engaging author biography. Condition Details: This is a genuine 1979 printing in Good condition overall, with signs of genuine vintage use that do not detract from its charm or readability. Externally: Spine slightly rubbed with light edge wear. Corners bumped. Covers slightly soiled with minor marks, scuffs, and handling wear consistent with age (fully visible in photos). Internally: Owner's sticker present inside the front cover. Binding remains tight. Text and illustrations are bright and clear throughout. Notable defects: Four internal pages (20-26) have a common small tear running through (does not distort or obscure any text or illustrations). The final page has a small piece missing at the margin, please see the photos (minor chip, no impact on content). No other significant damage, no colouring-in, and only minimal age-related tanning. All defects are clearly shown in the accompanying photographs - please examine them closely. Collectibility: A nostalgic favourite from the highly popular Garden Gang series (originally Series 413, later reissued as 793), which sold over eight million copies in total. Perfect for Ladybird collectors, children's book enthusiasts, or anyone who remembers these stories from the late 1970s/early 1980s. A lovely, readable copy of this scarce title that will still delight young readers or sit proudly on a collector's shelf. Feel free to message with any questions. Jayne Fisher (ilustrador). …

Illustrations bright and vibrant. A delightful reading copy with character—ideal for collectors of early Ladybird rhyming stories or fans of mid-20th century children's illustration. The Story: A humorous adventure in verse following the Bunney-Fluff twins (Flip and Flop) as they move from their riverside home "Bunnymead" to a safer "Bunney-Cot." With the help of Mr. Duck the boatman and friends like water rats and Froggy, they navigate mishaps on the river, including a dramatic rescue. Charming, gentle tale full of whimsy, perfect for bedtime reading. About the Creators: A. J. MacGregor (Angusine Jeanne MacGregor, 1879-1961) was a pioneering British illustrator and author who helped define the early visual style of Ladybird Books. Born in Harborne, Birmingham, to Scottish parents, she studied at Birmingham School of Art. MacGregor created both story and illustrations for many of the first Ladybird titles in Series 401 (rhyming animal stories launched in the early 1940s). Her warm, expressive watercolour illustrations of anthropomorphic animals—rabbits, ducks, frogs, and more—brought charm and personality to these books, making them instant classics. She contributed significantly to the success of titles like Bunnikin's Picnic Party, Ginger's Adventures, and this one. Her work is highly sought after by Ladybird collectors for its nostalgic appeal and artistic quality. W. Perring wrote the engaging verses for this and many other Series 401 books. His rhythmic, playful poetry complemented MacGregor's illustrations perfectly, creating accessible stories that appealed to young readers in post-war Britain. Series Context: Series 401 represents Ladybird's earliest numbered series of original rhyming stories. These small, affordable hardbacks with their distinctive format (text on one side, full-colour plate opposite) set the template for decades of Ladybird publishing. This title is a key early example, first issued in 1948. This copy of The Bunney-Fluffs' Moving Day would make a wonderful addition to a Ladybird collection or a charming gift for fans of vintage children's literature. A. J. MacGregor (ilustrador). …
