Die Frage nach Methoden und Ausgangsdaten der ptolemäischen "Geographie" ist der zentrale Gegenstand der Arbeit "Zur Genese der Ortskoordinaten Kleinasiens in der Geographie des Klaudios Ptolemaios". Der Untersuchungsansatz zu ihrer Identifizierung besteht in einer Analyse der Koordinatenwerte, wobei der untersuchte Bereich auf die erste Asienkarte der "Geographie" eingeschränkt ist. Die Analyse ermöglicht ein detailiertes Bild von Methoden und Quellen, das deutlich über die bislang als ptolemäische Methoden der Koordinatengenese interpretierten Andeutungen in den einleitenden Abschnitten der "Geographie" herausgeht.
