Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Large sheet 86x108cm colour printed with main map and 2 insets to each side (one side in English the other in Arabic), folding down into illustrated English and Arabic title panels 13x27cm. Computer production and printing by Esselte Map Service, Stockholm. Neatly folded with closed fold tears, the Arabic side is very good, unmarked and very presentable, but the English side has 4 pink highlighter marks to one of the insets. Scarce. This appears to be the first and only edition. Zakky, a lecturer in Geography at King Saud University, compiled it through extensive fieldwork, surveys and interviews conducted over the previous 24 months. His base map draws on information from the Ministries of Municipal and Rural Affairs, and Communication. He derived neighbourhood boundaries from those used by Municipality branches, the Saudi Consolidated Electric Company, neighbourhood Umddahs (superiors), and the conceptions of residents. The main map centres on Al Murabba bounded by Imam Ibn Saud Islamic University Campus (N), the industrial area and oil refinery at Al Sinaieyah al-Jadeedah (SE), and Dhrat Laban (W) and includes old Diriyyah on a 1/60K scale (grid referenced A-P 17-34). Two large insets zoom in on the areas bounded by G-J 22-28 and H-J 28-31 respectively on a 1/20K scale. The former extends from Al Murabba (S) to the Old Airport area (N). Extensive indexes list Quarters and streets, with colour coding for Government departments and landmarks, ministries, education, health centres, major companies and establishments, public markets and business complexes, cultural landmarks, recreation, banks and money exchanges, hotels, airlines, magazine and newspaper offices, and foreign government offices. Other details include several classes of road and street, actual and proposed. …

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Original wraps with Saudi map to the front 17x24cm. xiii, 110pp with texts in English and summaries in Arabic, including colour photos, b/w maps and plans. Wraps very good, lightly worn with small "SA" sticker to the front. Scarce. Worldcat also records a second edition in English and German, published in 1984. Interiors very good with author's inscription to the half title ("To Dr Ozer with Regards"). This was published by the University of Riyadh (a note to the front states its name was changed to King Saud University while the book was being printed). The editor, Zohair Sebai, was at this time Professor of Community Medicine, Dean, Abha Faculty of Medicine. The project was prompted by realisation that knowledge of health problems and community needs in the rural areas of Saudi Arabia was not keeping pace with the Kingdom's rapid social and economic development. It followed similar community diagnosis and health services programme visits to Taima (1976), Khulais (1977), Riyadh City (1978) and Tamnia (1979). It was conducted by a team from Riyadh University's Medical Faculty over a 2 week period in 1980. The team included 30 students, 12 faculty staff members, 6 specialists from various health organisations, and 22 nurses, health assistants and local teachers. The exercise was also an innovative way of providing field training in epidemiology and community health. Two villages in Qasim Province, Ain and Khusaiba, were selected based on their proximity to Breida, existence of a health centre as a base, suitable size, presence of boys' schools, and willingness to participate. Once local permission was obtained, surveys were carried out. The papers included here are arranged into sections on the health status of children, socioeconomic and environmental factors, and the health care delivery system, with review and summary. The maps show the location of Qasim in Saudi Arabia, Qasim Region, Ain and Khusaiba (the latter prepared by village schoolteachers to identify households before enumeration took place). Inscribed by Author(s).…

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Good. Fourteen papers in matching wraps 23x33cm with GCC, KSU and API logos, and cutouts revealing titles. Printed by King Saud University Press. Arabic texts. Good to very good. The GCC was formed in May 1981 with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE. The Arab Planning Institute was formed by the Kuwait Government with UNDP support in 1966 and widened to other countries in 1972. Building on GCC's Economic Agreement (Nov 1981) this early Symposium was held to address how to proceed with integration. By 1983 there was some progress on customs and travel. These papers cover the macro level, agriculture, industry, monetary policy and standards: "Trade integration among GCC members (quantitative introduction)", Adel Muhammad Bulbul, KSU, 42pp. Trade among members prior to GCC was weak due to integration with the global economy. / "Implications of small country size on economic integration with reference to GCC states", Mohamed Sultan Abu Ali, Zagazig University, 17pp, some pencil notes. This proposes growth centres in each state and a unified currency. / "Foreign Trade Sector Models in GCC Countries", Omar Zuhair Hafez, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, 34pp. Global dependence on oil can inform GCC price policy. Integration would help local industry which needs protection. / "Agricultural integration between GCC members and other regions", Khaled Al-Hassan, Consultant, 22pp. Integration would promote technology and skills transfer. GCC countries lack food security due to water scarcity so would benefit from wider Arab initiatives. / "Regional industrial cooperation in theory and practice", Mohamed Faraj Al-Khatrawi, Consultant, 95pp, some pencil underlines. Rationale for integration, Arab experience and GCC prospects. / "Industrial sector economic integration potential in GCC countries", Mohamed Ali Al-Naqq, Chair and MD, Arab Company for Light Metals, Kuwait, 16pp. This calls for a joint database on activities, production, and local demand; unified standards and legislation; coordinated development finance; integrated policy promoting new and protecting existing industry etc. / "Monetary integration potential in GCC countries", Abdel Monim Al-Sayed Ali, Al Mustansiriya University, Baghdad, (3), 75pp. As GCC is an optimal monetary area it should integrate quickly. / "Economic integration potential in GCC countries in monetary and investment fields", Hazem El-Beblawi, 20pp. A single currency would help protect investment abroad from inflation risk. / "The dynamic role of import substitution in achieving development integration among GCC countries", Fayez Ibrahim Al-Habi, KSU, 38pp, some pencil notes. The European model is inappropriate due to small size and similarities between GCC states. Integration will be key to plans to grow market size. / "Gulf integration strategy within the Arab cooperation framework in developing human resources", Muhammad Al-Awad Jalal Al-Din, API-Kuwait, 32pp. Labour movement between countries would reduce inequality and should be facilitated unless national efforts are made to develop HR. / "Manpower development and selection of appropriate technology as a basis for economic development and integration in GCC countries", H Mansour, Secretary General, Manpower Council, Riyadh, 27pp. Drawing on Saudi experience and the role of the Manpower Council this prioritises appropriate technical education, vocational training, and development focused higher education. / "The possibility of relying on price system to achieve economic integration in GCC countries", Mohamed Hamed Abdullah, 16pp. Given similarities among members this could work in a managed way. / "Marketing cooperation between small factories in GCC countries (applied from experience in Riyadh)", Mohamed Essam Al-Masri, Helwan University and KSU, 67pp. Cooperation is necessary given stiff competition and costs, with methods discussed. / "The role of specifications in economic integration", Dhafer Sawaf, Arab Standardisation Organisation 14pp.…
