Lacks the dust jacket. The author began collecting wooden tools more than 30 years before this book was published. Much of the material that appears in this book was previously available in a series of publications between 1966 and 1969 printed by the Early American Industries Society. The author has revised the material and substantially added to it for this book. The text is accompanied by photographs of the tools described. There are also photocopies of many of the catalogues put out by the manufacturers. The appendices contain; a checklist of 19th century American and Canadian firms, an alphabetical list of makers, firms, and imprints, a list of illustrations, and index. A near fine copy.
