As the map in the front of the book illustrates, Fenton traveled through Pembrokeshire, sharing the history and landscape with his readers. Legend mixes with fact in this history, however; in one section, Fenton writes of a basilisk residing in the woods behind the Bolston mansion, "a creature that is fabled to kill if it first sees, or to die instantly if first seen, and that one of the ancient possessors of this place, by a stratagem of inclosing himself in a cask, had himself rolled into the thick of the wood, where, through a hole in the cask, he first espyed the monster, causing it to perish." (233). More than the typical travel guide, this beautifully bound book explores the history and lore of a quaint Welsh county that is not without its own little excitements. Faint shelf wear to extremities, some rubbing to marbled boards. Moderate foxing throughout text, offsetting from illustrations. Contemporary inked name on title page, marginalia page 468. Some scattered toning, a few leaves foxed, hole to title-page of one vol touching text with no loss of sense. Rubbed, some wear to edges, particularly spine ends, joints split but hinges firm. Ownership inscription of Robert Drummond, Glasgow to flyleaf dated 1828, his inscription to first title-page dated 1772, final leaf of first volume filled-out in contemporary manuscript. A sammelband of heterogeneous material assembled by Rev. Robert Drummond, including an almost-unrecorded issue of the articles of a Belfast annuity fund. ESTC records 4 copies of an identically-paginated book ?The Charter-Party: or, articles of agreement of the Belfast Annuity Company?, 2 of which are at the Linen Hall Library, Belfast. Consultation with their holdings reveals one copy with the ESTC wording on the title-page and one with the title-page as here, but with otherwise-identical contents. John Russel?s sermon was popular enough to reach a second edition the following year, but both are now scarce, with this first printing recorded in 5 institutions in ESTC, while Colquhoun?s Christian Union has 14 records. Hardcover. Condición: Good. Fourth Edition. 15-volume set (complete). A well-preserved set of George Steevens' 1793 15-Volume edition of Shakespeare's works, in original full calf. The leather has become dry and cracked with age, and there is some chipping and rubbing to the corners of the boards and heads and feet of the spines, but the binding remains fully intact. The hinges and joints of several volumes are cracked, but holding well. The front board of Volume 3 has been neatly re-attached with linen hinges. Book pages have normal age related wear with some foxing, mainly around endpapers, but overall are clean and unmarked and in excellent condition. The front pastedown of each volume has the bookplate of Edward King, with coat of arms and the motto 'Kings Ay to Kin Kindlie'. Volume One has handwritten note, with initials "E.K", on front free endpaper "This is known as 'Steevens' Own Edition' and is by many considered the most accurate and desirable edition published."
