This book explores, in chronological order, forty-seven battlefields in England, Scotland, and Wales, from the Danish invasions to the rebellion of Bonny Prince Charlie. A historical acount of each battle is illustrated with modern photographs of the field, a combination that invests the battlefields with an unsettling depth of meaning. Large-scale plans guide the visitor to view-points and places of interest on the field itself or in the immediate area. The result is an unusual and beautiful book that is both practical and enlightening. A great book to give quick familiarity to many English battles.
