Hardcover. grey cloth w/ bw illustration, vertical black printing. 289 pgs w/ 187 bw plates, other bw illustrations. text in English. "With a career spanning nearly half a century, Bill Brandt was a master of several major genres of photography: photojournalism, portraiture, the nude and landscapes. At first glance, Brandt's genres may appear unrelated, but when analysing his career in its entirety, a common theme comes to the forefront: what psychologist Sigmund Freud and philosopher Eugenio Trias called 'the sinister.' From his earliest photographs taken as an amateur in the 1930s to his late portraits and studies of the female body, Brandt expresses a fascination with the strange and dark aspects of life that only he can reveal. With 200 photographs from throughout Brandt's career, this book adds a crucial chapter to the analysis of this key figure in 20th-century photography. 'Bill Brandt' is set to become an authoritative retrospective. Hardcover. Condición: VG. Blue and black boards with light blue text. 147 pp. Many bw and color illustrations, one fold out diagram. "In 1943, the renowned art collector Peggy Guggenheim organised in her New York gallery 'Art of This Century', one of the first exhibitions in the United States to showcase works exclusively by European and American women, titled Exhibition by 31 Women. The show was conceived by Guggenheim in collaboration with Marcel Duchamp, and the artists were selected by a jury whose members included André Breton, Max Ernst and Duchamp himself. Guggenheim, as the sole woman on the jury, was in a privileged position to provide a female perspective in the selection process. These women, many of whom were associated with Surrealism or Abstraction, maintained an ambiguous position within both trends. Often, they employed these styles to reformulate and challenge them, preserving their independence and shedding light on the patriarchal assumptions underlying these artistic movements.31 Women: An Exhibition by Peggy Guggenheim presents a curated selection and reinterpretation of that initiative, including all the artists featured in the original show. With this exhibition, the Foundation aims not only to honor Peggy Guggenheim's significant role as one of the foremost patrons and collectors of the 20th century, but also shift the narrative away from viewing these women primarily through their connections with male artists. Instead, it highlights the networks of collaboration, solidarity, and friendship they established among themselves." -- publisher website.…

"The exhibition, 1924 : Other Surrealisms, comes to Spain with the intention of analyzing the reception and influence of surrealism in our country and offering a new perspective on the movement in a place that, in the 1920s and 1930s, was on the periphery of the European avant-garde. To this end, the exhibition not only focuses on the work of some of the great representatives of this trend at both national and international levels, including Salvador Dalí, Óscar Domínguez, Joan Miró and René Magritte, but also places special emphasis on the work of other less famous creators who worked outside the dominant discourse in Spain and Latin America, and also highlights the contribution of women to the group.".…
