Encores is a comprehensive section on Nigels recorded output, covering his early classical work, the Four Seasons and later albums. There are insights into his work with rock musicians including Robert Plant, the late drummer Michael Lee, Killing Joke singer Jaz Coleman, and producers Eddie Kramer (Jimmy Hendrix) and John Leckie (Stone Roses). Nigels writing on Gershwin, Yehudi Menuhin, Stephan Grappelli (my biggest inspiration), Jimi Hendrix and the Doors is compelling. Nigel writes of his interests outside music - boxing and football - which provide inspiration and balance to his creative output (on Aston Villa - a true blessing for me to have an outlet in which I was surrounded by normal, honest, hard-working people who did proper jobs). There is a splendid chapter on Kitchen Golf, a not-without-risk variation of the game, conjured up with close friend and mischief-maker Gary Lineker, during a messy late night kitchen session. My whole life has been spent breaking down barriers between people and this book is proof of that. states Nigel in his Warning. Its a Mission Statement borne out in Uncensored with aplomb. He can't explain why, but it all began over thirty years ago when he bought a glass plate photographic collection which depicted, with pin sharp clarity,…numerous Doncaster trams. From there he moved on to collecting tram crash postcards and helped Sheffield author Brian Hinchliffe produce a small tram crash booklet in 1990. Since that time Peter has collected many more tram crash pictures. Why the fascination with crashes? That's unexplainable too. But disasters hold people's fascination whether they involve aeroplanes, fires, explosions etc. So, offering no plausible rational explanations or excuses, this book boldly illustrates British and Foreign tram crashes from the late nineteenth century to the present day. In certain instances trams have also fallen victim of enemy aerial action and Peter has felt that dramatic pictures of those incidents has warranted them being included here. But, regardless of whether the reader is interested in trams, or disasters of any type, this book also has a wealth of interest for those fascinated by the changing transport scene over the last century. He detailed observations of the hardships that followed when they endured being at action s…tations and locked in the engine room, under fire from the skies above and the sea below, and only able to guess at what was happening from the cacophony of sounds they could hear. Thomas tells of how the crew suffered from an appalling lack of food, the intense cold, and the stark conditions endured for weeks on end berthed in Archangel in the cold of the approaching Russian winter. There are also insights about the morale of the men and lighter moments when their humour kept them going. These stories can now be told as his daughter has edited them into an account that illustrates the fortitude and bravery of the men who sailed through ice and fire to further the war effort so far from home. He travelled extensively in Britain and built up a large railway photographic archive from the late 1950s onwards. This book is made up entirely of Alan's collection of photographs from across the Midlands. It will a…ppeal to railway enthusiasts, modellers, and those with an interest in local history. Alan started using colour film in 1959 and colour slides make up the majority of the photographs. Many enthusiasts in this era had a policy of filming steam only and ignoring the new diesel interlopers, but not Alan; they do make appearances, even including some early electric classes. A particular passion of Alan's was small industrial steam locomotives, and he restored a Kerr Stuart 'Wren' class 0-4-0 to working order between 1959 and 1961. So in addition to larger British Railways locomotives, their smaller relations are also seen across the Midlands. Alan passed on in 1982 and his widow, Wendy, gave Alan's collection of railway photographs to film-maker and author Michael Clemens, whose late father was a friend of Alan's.Alan's collection lives on today at film shows around the country and now in this book.
