Using this amazing material and many other sources Oscar Browning produced the first English language account of the formative years between Napoleon's birth in 1769 and when he first forced his way onto the world stage as a young man of importance at the siege of Toulon in 1793. There He personally led his men in the assault on the field earthworks guarding the city. During one of the attacks he received a bayonet wound. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Peter Tuffrey has always been fascinated by trams, just as other people are captivated by racing cars, motorcars, steam locomotives and buses. He can't explain why, but it all began over thirty years ago when he bought a glass plate photographic collection which depicted, with pin sharp clarity, numerous Doncaster trams. From there he moved on to collecting tram crash postcards and helped Sheffield author Brian Hinchliffe produce a small tram crash booklet in 1990. Since that time Peter has collected many more tram crash pictures. Why the fascination with crashes? That's unexplainable too. But disasters hold people's fascination whether they involve aeroplanes, fires, explosions etc. So, offering no plausible rational explanations or excuses, this book boldly illustrates British and Foreign tram crashes from the late nineteenth century to the present day. In certain instances trams have also fallen victim of enemy aerial action and Peter has felt that dramatic pictures of those incidents has warranted them being included here. The Thatcher Government, in power throughout the decade, brought about privatisation of the National Bus Company and the Scottish Bus Group. In addition, 1986 saw the introduction of full deregulation of bus services, with the exception of London. Deregulation meant competition and "bus wars" broke out in many parts of the country, sometimes in the most unexpected of places. He travelled extensively in Britain and built up a large railway photographic archive from the late 1950s onwards. This book is made up entirely of Alan's collection of photographs from across the Midlands. It will appeal to railway enthusiasts, modellers, and those with an interest in local history. Alan started using colour film in 1959 and colour slides make up the majority of the photographs. Many enthusiasts in this era had a policy of filming steam only and ignoring the new diesel interlopers, but not Alan; they do make appearances, even including some early electric classes. A particular passion of Alan's was small industrial steam locomotives, and he restored a Kerr Stuart 'Wren' class 0-4-0 to working order between 1959 and 1961. So in addition to larger British Railways locomotives, their smaller relations are also seen across the Midlands.
