Mit Arbeiten von Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Piet… Mondrian, Georges Braque, Fernand Leger, Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol u.a. Ernst Beyeler (1921-2010), Galerist, Kunstsammler und Museumsgründer, war in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts eine der bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten des internationalen Kunsthandels. 1940 begann er neben seinem Kunstgeschichtsstudium als Aushilfe bei einem Antiquariat in Basel zu arbeiten, das er 1945 übernahm. Daraus entwickelte sich dann seine Kunsthandlung. Mit vielen der Künstler die er ausstellte war er auch befreundet, besonders mit Picasso. 1970 war Beyeler Mitbegründer und bis 1992 Mitorganisator der Internationalen Kunstmesse Art Basel.
