Hard Cover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. First Edition. First edition. Signed by author without inscription on title page. Pages lightly toned, otherwise an excellent copy. 1998 Hard Cover. 347 pp. When 34-year-old Chloe Morgan appears on Hank Oliver's doorstep in Cameron, Arizona, she arrives with mor…e than her old white German shepherd, Hannah, and a rambunctious horse in tow. Chloe is pregnant with Hank's child, and she's as tough-talking and vulnerable, skittish and tender as when last we saw her, in Jo-Ann Mapson's acclaimed first novel Hank & Chloe.Loving Chloe takes up where the earlier novel leaves off. As Chloe and Hank settle somewhat uneasily into domesticity in his grandmother's cabin, a local Navajo legend named Junior Whitebear, an artist whose work has been praised by the eastern commercial establishment, returns home to collect his father's ashes and renew his own spirit after years spent in the art world fast lane. When Junior arrives at the reservation, he doesn't expect to find a son he fathered unwittingly nine years ago with Corinne Johnson; nor is he looking to fall in love with newcomer Chloe Morgan and to deliver her baby girl. Both events change his life forever, not to mention the lives of those around him. A passionate love story, Loving Chloe explores the emotional complexity of a love triangle with sympathy, humor and compassion. Sexual longing, the bonds of family and nagging questions of identity with far-reaching consequences making Loving Chloe a rich, rewarding work of fiction. Set against the spectacular beauty of the American Southwest, Jo-Ann Mapson's new novel is the page-turning sequel to Hank & Chloe that readers have eagerly been awaiting. Signed by author.

First published in hardcover 1980. Trade Paperback. Thor Heyerdahl KStJ (1914 2002) was a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer with a background in biology with specialization in zoology, botany and geography. Heyerdahl gained fame for his Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, in which he sailed 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean in a hand-built raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands. The expedition was designed to demonstrate that ancient people could have made long sea voyages, creating contacts between societies. This was linked to a diffusionist model of cultural development. Heyerdahl made other voyages to demonstrate the possibility of contact between widely separated ancient peoples, among them the Ra II expedition of 1970, when he sailed from the west coast of Africa to Barbados in a papyrus reed boat. Along with his companions from nine nations, Heyerdahl set sail in a boat made of reeds in search of the sea routes which he was sure must have been used by the Sumerians in vessels like his own, 5000 years ago. In 'The Tigris Expedition', Heyerdahl recounts the many discoveries and hazards that occurred on his journey down the Tigris, through the Gulf and on to the Indian Ocean - tales of modern shipping, bandits, reefs and the political dispute which finally led to the ceremonial burning of the boat. This was to be the last of the Great Expeditions in reed ships that Heyerdahl made on the ocean and it makes for an exciting read. Thor and his 10 multi-national companions built and sailed again together in a reed ship - a ma-gur- from models based on Middle Eastern antiquity. It was to be the last of the sea explorer series that started with Kon-Tiki, and then through Ra I and Ra II - all voyages made in reed ships that the author and his international crew built in the ancient manner and sailed in the old way to modern versions of ancient ports in their quest to prove sea routes of ancient man viable. ; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 379 pages.

paperback. Condición: Very Good in Wrappers. No Jacket. First Edition. London. 1993. Flamingo/Harper Collins. 1st British Edition. Very Good in Wrappers. 0006546331. Paperback Original. 268 pages. paperback. Cover: Bill Robinson. keywords: African American Literature America. DESCRIPTION - This extraordinary, immensely powerful…debut novel takes the form of a diary written by Cornelius Washington, Jr. - a forty-four-year-old crack addict. The diary, a passionate and gripping stream-of-consciousness confession, captures the harsh realities of Cornelius's grim present and his vivid memories of the exuberance and turmoil of his earlier life. The product of a strict and loving upwardly mobile middle-class family, Cornelius excelled in school and went to Columbia on full scholarship. Opportunity was rife for this bright, ambitious young black man, and for a time he seized it, personally and professionally. For years he dabbled with drugs, but always just for fun, until, sometime in his thirties, a friend in the music business introduced him to crack. Shell's searingly authentic account of a man's self-conscious but helpless submission to addiction documents a tragic contemporary phenomenon. As we follow, mesmerized, Cornelius's path toward the fate he most fears - becoming what he calls a 'Vampire-Zombie,' one of the lost, dead souls at the end of the addiction line - we experience not only the horrors of an addict's life but a compelling and often uplifting story of human love and loss. In this harrowing debut, Shell mixes the syncopated language of the streets with poetry from the heart to take the reader deep into the horrifying, mesmerizing world of Cornelius Washington, Jr., a 40-year-old crack addict trapped in a life that's dominated by drugs. 'A powerhouse.' - Maya Angelou. inventory #33242.
