The first full edition of The Seasons by the Scottish poet, James Thomson (1700-48) was published in 1730. The additional material appeared in the editions of 1762 with the Life by Patrick Murdoch (d.1774) and 1778 onwards, with the Essay by John Aiken (1747-1822), which was also published separately.
