Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Almost every story of maternal infanticide starts with 'the baby wouldn't stop crying'. But the story is more than' just bad or mentally ill mothers who lethally assault their baby. The story is about how hard it is to be a good mother in a society where women are expected to raise their children in their spare time and with their spare change. This expectation is grounded in a modern mothering ideology of unclear, overwhelming gender socialized expectations of what good mothers are supposed to be and do and assumes mothers have access to the economic and support resources necessary for this monumental job. The struggle of being a 'good mother' is common to all mothers and requires much more time and resources than most mothers have available to them. In today's society, almost all mothers must have a paying job just to make ends meet. Their job takes up most of their day and leaves little time for the demands of parenting. Gender segregated jobs and economic inequality of women leave mothers with pay checks that are insufficient for homecare, childcare, and healthcare and leaves them eking out basic goods such as food, diapers, and medicine. And they are powerless to change their situation. For some mothers, like the ones discussed in this book, the struggle overwhelms them and they commit a terrible, heavily-regretted act that costs them their child's life, their family, their freedom, and their piece of mind for the rest of their lives. This book examines the social, economic and cultural conditions and stressors under which mothers commit infanticide, and shows how these conditions affect the ability to meet societal and self-perceived expectations of 'good' mothering. As mothers perceive that they are failing to meet these expectations, the likelihood of violence toward the infant increases. This failure is the result of cultural and economic inequalities that are situated in the context of increasingly anomic, unrealistic expectations of mothering and decreasing social support and economic resources necessary for fulfilling the role identity of mother.…

Hardback. Condición: Good. 'Reimagining Business Education' discusses the rationale for, and design of, the first Business Education Jam. It reviews key challenges facing business education and articulates a vision for how the role and delivery of business education could be reimagined. This book is critically important during a time when business schools, as an industry, struggle to identify the innovations necessary to meet the needs of a changing world. The Jam was the first open platform for dialogue of its kind for business education and continues to make an impact - including use by Schools and Deans around the world to guide strategic planning efforts; program directors as they drive innovation in their programs; and industry executives as they identify ways to better engage with business education. This book takes this collaborative effort a step further to break down traditional models and structures as we seek to reimagine the future of business education in a more open and connected world.…

It then examines the pressing contexts and most wicked problems facing future leaders ranging from population growth and urbanization to climate change and resource competition. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. What is our role in creating healthy organizations and a healthy world? Creative Social Change fosters a unique dialogue on the interconnections between leadership, sustainability, the long-term viability of the planet, and organizational development. Brought together, these arenas of research and action can influence events globally and contribute to creating a healthy society. The book builds on interviews with five eminent social scientists, thought leaders for many decades on the nature of organizational and societal development: Robert Quinn, Otto Scharmer, Edgar Schein, Peter Senge, and Margaret Wheatley. It includes contributions on what is needed for change from longstanding creative scholar-practitioners such as Riane Eisler and Karl-Henrik Robert, as well as new voices, and concludes with a variety of concrete case studies from around the world about efforts in this direction. Embracing all levels of thinking, from the conceptual to the concrete, the book generates a foundation for scholarly research and proposes practical questions that can be used for dialogue and action among leaders, policy makers, and organizational consultants.…

Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Communities are at the core of disaster risk reduction (DRR), and community based approaches are getting increasing focus in national DRR plans. In the case of past disasters, communities were always the first responders, and took leading roles in the post disaster recovery. The roles of communities in pre-disaster preparedness are also very important. This is the first comprehensive book available on CBDRR (community based disaster risk reduction) which outlines both research and practice, citing field examples and research results.
