Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This catalogue was published within the context of the exhibition titled Chats with Mouth Shut. by OEzcan Kaplan that took place on November 8- December 11, 2016 at Dirimart Nisantasi. The catalogue presenting Kaplan's works of last five years features two texts, one by Rudolf Schmitz and another by Necmi Zeka. OEzcan Kaplan's paintings reach unknown realms through the use of the apparent. The depth of Kaplan's works is correlated with the phases of the production process. It is possible to see countless layers on the canvas, where restarting with the quest to find the unexperimented, selfquestioning and coincidences meet with colors. The search for freedom, thrusted by lines, color successions and brush strokes, ends at a point when nothing else can be added or changed anymore. Kaplan, who lays his life process on the core of his artistic practices, completely alters the timeline perceived by the viewer. According to the artist, his works ". focus on the act of painting itself. They can be defined in terms of timing and some sort of a stratification. This way, the paintings turn into a symbol of a meta-reality. At the basis of this lays existence and being a human. Producing art is a way of seduction, after all." OEzcan Kaplan's solo and group exhibitions include In Any Case, Dirimart, Istanbul (2013). Kulturpraemie, BASF Feierabendhaus, Ludwigshafen (1995); Kulturpraemie, Lindenau Museum, Altenburg (1995); Sieben Tage sind eine Woche, Helaba, Frankfurt am Main; IG Metall Galerie, Frankfurt am Main (1997); Kunstraum Junghofstrasse, Frankfurt am Main (1998); Kunstpreis Junger Westen, Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Sprengel Museum Hannover (1999); Frankfurter Kreuz, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt am Main (2001); Malerei, k9 aktuelle Kunst, Hannover (2005); True Colours, Neuer Kunstverein Aschaffenburg (2008); My Generation V, Kunstverein Familie Montez, Frankfurt am Main (2009); OE. Kaplan, S. Pick, K. Kamptner, T. S. Vukic, Lange Str. 31, Frankfurt am Main (2014); About Colour, Kunsthaus Wiesbaden (2015). OEzcan Kaplans paintings reach unknown realms through the use of the apparent. The depth of Kaplans works is correlated with the phases of the production process where it is possible to see countless layers on the canvas, and where restarting with the quest to find the unexperimented, self-questioning and coincidences meet with colors. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This catalogue was published within the context of the paint action of Hermann Nitsch organized by Dirimart at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair on November 7-10, 2013 and the Herman Nitsch exhibition held at Dirimart Nisantasi on February 13-March 8, 2014. The catalogue presents his works that came out of his paint action at the 2013 Contemporary Istanbul together with his paintings from 1999 to 2013, accompanied by two texts by the artist. In his words: "The painter submits itself to a dramatic painting process. In my theater, this ecstasy of the painting process leaves the canvas surface, the real event takes its place instead. Blood and flesh is being used instead of color. My arguments of the painting are sorted in painting actions and numbered. From 7 to 10 November 2013, I had the 66th painting performance in Istanbul. It was interesting for me to demonstrate my work in a country largely covered by Islamic culture. I was amazed that my work is understood and a different religion issue did not stand in its way. I believe that the confrontation of the Orient with the Vienna Art is very important. At the time of Jugendstil, a similar attempt has been carried out there by Klimt. I think it's very good to expand such artistic relationships here." Hermann Nitsch, one of the founders of Viennese Actionism, continues his traditional modern artistic ritual with his ritual-like actions named Orgien Mysterien Theater. Nitsch blesses the body in the context of blood, nudity, and violence while adopting a critical manner against modernist body politics. While conveying the violence dispersed in human essence to all senses, Nitsch leads major themes of contemporary art, such as animalism and gender, as well as performance arts and happenings. In his performances that resemble rituals of early ages, the artist exhibits visible, smellable, audible, and perceivable reality, free from the artificial effect of traditional drama and including all the elements both central and peripheric. Aside from Orgien Mysterien Theater, Nitsch creates a new ground in the mind of the viewer where colors and images co-exist, with his paintings which are the result of his painting actions. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This catalogue was published within the context of two solo exhibitions of Peter Zimmermann that took place at Dirimart Nisantasi, Next of Kin on March 26-April 25, 2010 and Chrome on April 4-May 6, 2013. The catalogue features a text by Joe Houston together with works exhibited in these two exhibitions. Peter Zimmermann's paintings reinterpret the traditional art of painting in relation with modernism and Color Field Movement. Working process of the artist begins with gathering the visuals collected by the artist physically or by scanning, and then evolves by deforming these visuals at computer. Images that become unrecognizable are transferred on canvas and given a form by means of colorful resin poured on them. It can be said that these compositions of Zimmermann, famous for the use of epoxy for more than twenty years, in a kind of alchemical interaction, are the products of his talent on the perception of color and light. Peter Zimmermann was exhibited at many museums such as the Museum Moderner Kunst Klagenfurt (2009); Museum fu]r neue Kunst, Freiburg (2016); and Baden-Wu]rttemberg (2017). His works are included in the collections of Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Staatsgalerie Stuttgart; and Museum Moderner Kunst, Frankfurt am Main. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. The Shirin Neshat exhibition I Will Greet the Sun Again is at the Broad Museum Los Angeles from 19 Oct 2019 - 16 February 2020Shirin Neshat: Mourners from the Book of Kings features 14 stunning photographs inscribed with Persian writing This catalogue was published within the context of Shirin Neshat exhibition curated by Heinz Peter Schwerfel that took place on May 10-June 15, 2013 at Dirimart Nisantasi. Neshat's "Mourners" from her The Book of Kings series, inspired by the epic Shahnameh by Ferdowsi (940-1020), are based on portraits of individuals residing in the slums of Cairo, where the promise of freedom and democracy following the uprising against the Mubarak regime failed to materialize. Inscribed with Persian handwriting, the artist's black and white portraits confront the viewer with human bodies that face a struggle against hegemony in this overly politicized region marked by covert violence and suppression. Schwerfel writes, "This art, beyond the political engagement of Iran's Green Movement and the mystique of the Arab Spring, is shaped by two opposing rhetorical systems that currently feud with each other on a global scale." Shirin Neshat's works have been exhibited in museums such as Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Serpentine Gallery, London Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin(Germany) Walker Art Center, Minneapolis(USA) Musee d'Art Contemporain de Montreal, Montreal(Canada) Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit (USA) She has held exhibitions at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (USA) She participated in the 48th Venice Biennial (1999); Whitney Biennial (2000); Documenta XI (2002); and Prospect 1 New Orleans (2009). Awards she was granted are: Grand Prize at the Gwangju Biennial (2000); the First International Award at the 48th Venice Biennale (1999); Hiroshima Freedom Prize (2005); Dorothy and Lillian Gish Award (2006). In 2009, Neshat made her first feature film titled Woman Without Men, and was awarded with Silver Lion prize for Best Director at the 66th Venice International Film Festival. This is shown again at the Quad cinema New York in October 2019 . Her feature film Looking For Oum Kulthum (2017) crafts a visually dazzling, multi-planed mirror between the mid-century Egyptian diva and the contemporary film director seeking a creative connection with her. It is being screened at important festivals all around the world. Neshat's current photo series include The Book of Kings (2012), Our House is on Fire (2013), and The Home of My Eyes (2015 Based on portraits of individuals residing in the slums of Cairo, where the promise of freedom and democracy following the uprising against the Mubarak regime failed to materialize. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. The exhibition and the accompanying catalog features ten paintings made by using a set of seven colors: red, yellow, brown, pink, green, and two types of blue. Ten paintings sharing same colors, some sharing a single motif. In 2019, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris will host a retrospective of Bernard Frize, one of the foremost abstract painters of the worldThe catalog presenting Frize's ten paintings produced for this exhibition features a text by Jurriaan BenschopThis exhibition catalog was published within the context of the exhibition titled Togetherles by Bernard Frize that took place on March 20-April 29, 2018 at Dirimart Dolapdere. A group of paintings are made with a wide brush on which he put the seven colors next to each other. He then moved the brush around, creating patterns that are reminiscent of a kaleidoscope. Another group bears a woven compositional pattern created through crossing four vertical and three horizontal bands of color. What connects the paintings is rather a compositional scheme. As for color, those ten paintings produce very different results in terms of atmosphere, brightness, and accessibility. Bernard Frize is not a painter who likes to be visible within his paintings. The subjective gesture that connects the painting with its maker seems far away from his approach. The painter is rather skeptical about the possibilities of expression. Despite this, there is an active painter's hand visible--the works do not appear neutral, or as if no human being was involved in making them. Color is a paradox: it does "not particularly interest" him, despite its being a vital raw material for his work. By using color in a non-hierarchical, experimental, technical-mechanical manner, Frize lends his works a certain dynamic through contradictions. Concentrating on the process of production of the painting rather than the elements like color, composition, and symbols offers a nice challenge to the viewer: the challenge of seeing/ hearing the "pictorial score." This exhibition catalogue features ten paintings by Bernard Frize, one of the formost abstract painters in the world, made by using a set of seven colors: red, yellow, brown, pink, green, and two types of blue - producing very different results in terms of atmosphere, brightness, and accessibility. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Published on the occasion of Karin Kneffel's exhibition Haymatlos at Dirimart (13 November 202017 January 2021), this trilingual catalogue explores themes of memory, displacement, and belonging. The 19 paintings on view establish a dialogue between Germany and Turkey through the notion of heimatlos-statelessness-probing how the past is recalled, altered, or transformed, leaving ambiguous traces in the present. Kneffel engages with the legacies of three exiled figures who lived in Istanbul: architect Bruno Taut, sculptor Rudolf Belling, and designer Margarete Schuette-Lihotzky. Their iconic works-the Bosphorus house designed by Taut, Belling's Inoenue sculpture and Skulptur 49, and Schuette-Lihotzky's pioneering Frankfurter Kueche-reappear under Kneffel's painterly veil of drops, bubbles, and brushstrokes, questioning whether the world is ever truly familiar. Enriched with an essay by Julia Voss, along with studio and installation views, the catalogue situates Haymatlos within Kneffel's broader practice and her celebrated retrospective STILL in Germany. Text in English and Turkish and German. AUTHOR: Karin Kneffel (b. 1957, Marl) studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Duesseldorf between 1981 and 1987. She currently teaches at the Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste Muenchen. Among her recent solo and group exhibitions are at the Museum Jean de La Fontaine, France (1999); Monks House-Museum of Modern Art, Germany (2006); Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Cologne (2008); Haus Esters, Germany (2009); Kunsthalle Tuebingen, Germany (2010); Museo De Arte Contemporaneo, Spain (2014); Barcelona Pavilion, Spain (2014); Fallstudien, Kathe Kollwitz Museum, Germany (2015); Works on Paper, Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, Germany (2015); and Bild im Bild, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany (2017). Karin Kneffel lives and works in Duesseldorf. Julia Voss is an honorary professor at the Institute for Philosophy and Art Studies at Leuphana University Lueneburg. As part of her doctoral thesis on "Darwin's Pictures. Views of the Theory of Evolution, 1837-1874", she received fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and the Akademie Schloss Solitude from 2001 onward. From 2007 to 2017, she headed the art department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and from 2014 to 2017 she also became deputy head of the arts section. She taught art criticism at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main and at Philipps University in Marburg. After 10 years of newspaper work, she returned to academia. Her work has been awarded prestigious prizes, including the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society and the Sigmund Freud Prize for scientific prose of the German Academy for Language and Poetry. In 2013, she curated the exhibition "1938. Art, Artists, Politics" at the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt. Her research focuses on the history of abstraction, the connections between evolutionary theory and culture, restitution and provenance, theory and history of the art market and art criticism. Until January 2020, she wrote the art column "Ask Julia Voss" in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. Her book Die Menschheit in Erstaunen versetzen: Hilma af Klint - Life and Work. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Starting from the exhibition When Attitudes Become Form at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1969, Sarkis has became a groundbreaker in the world conceptual art. His works have been exhibited worldwide in established institutions such as Centre Georges Pompidou, New York Guggenheim Museum, Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Bonn Kunst-und-Austellungshalle, Museee du Louvre, Berlin Bode Museum, to name few. Documenta VI, Documenta VII, Kassel (1977, 1982); and the biennials of Sydney, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Moscow, and Istanbul are among the most significant exhibitions he participated in. He represented Armenia and Turkey at the International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, but the 56th was special for Sarkis with his Respiro at the Pavilion of Turkey and Armenity at the Pavilion of Armenia. This specially designed catalogue was published in the context of the exhibition titled Mirror by Sarkis that took place on January 18-February 19, 2017 at Dirimart Dolapdere. Combining arts of Sarkis, the conceptual artist and Bu]lent Erkmen, the pioneer of graphic design in Turkey, it features a text by the co-curator Ceren Erdem. In Mirror, a space for refractions, proliferations, screams, and silence opens as the artist's timeless works from different periods that mark the time encounter the new works for this exhibition. Placing the theory of memory at the core of his practice, Sarkis is introducing a layered critical view to today's social and political issues by inviting witnesses from history. The works transform the art's faculty of bringing the traces of the past to the present into the competence in conjuring up the future through artistic production. A battle scene from the 15th century and the responding lightning provoke the space as they transmute into neon installations. In this space, golden rainbows, images of which histories are touched by Kintsugi technique, moments captured and enlightened by stained glasses, spoils of war coated with lipstick convene and live in a mirror. And many photographs witnessing this confrontation integrate with the faces staring at them and reflect our world like a giant mirror. Sarkis has became a groundbreaker in the world conceptual art. His works have been exhibited worldwide in established institutions such as Centre Georges Pompidou, New York's Guggenheim Museum, and the Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This artist book is the most comprehensive book on the German artist Franz Ackermann. It is a kind of a "sketch book" of the artist accompanied by a text of Carmela Thiele and a Glossary giving hints towards understanding his oeuvre. It was published on the occasion of the exhibition titled Come On! by Franz Ackermann that took place on September 14-October 15, 2017 at Dirimart Dolapdere. Franz Ackermann generates enthusiastic paintings and installations that disclose different aspects of tourism, based on themes like globalization and urban life, inspired by his backpack travels in all around the world's megacities. With his first major series Mental Maps he has created watercolor paintings that combine the street maps' sensitivity to reflect the truth and his own interpretation of the cities where he has been to. Franz Ackermann designed large-scale dynamic installations using components such as paintings, photographs, wall drawings, sculptures, and structures resembling advertising panels. Although traveling and the documentation thereof play a central role in the artist's work, his most important medium remains painting; using murals and installations, he escalates its suggestive power to the absolute limit. How potent his continually expanding cosmos -consisting of action (travel), reflection (internalized theory), and painting- still, after twenty years of work, is manifest in his newest paintings taken into this artist book. Franz Ackermann has exhibited extensively internationally, including solo exhibitions at Portikus Frankfurt am Main (1997); Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2000); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2002); Kunsthalle Basel (2002); Irish Museum of Modern Art (2005); Kunstmuseum St Gallen (2008); Kunstmuseum Bonn (2009); Faena Arts Center, Buenos Aires (2012); Mental Maps - Eikones, Kunsthalle Karlsruhe (2014); Dessins, Daniel Templon, Paris (2016); Come On!, Dirimart Dolapdere, Istanbul (2017); and group exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2005); Biennale d'Art Contemporain de Lyon (2005); Altermodern: Tate Triennial 2009, Tate Britain, London (2009); and Mai 36 Showroom, Zurich (2017). This artist book is the most comprehensive book on the German artist Franz Ackermann. Ackermann generates enthusiastic paintings and installations that disclose different aspects of tourism, based on themes like globalization and urban life, inspired by his backpack travels in and around the worlds megacities. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Behind It Something Intimate brings together a selection of Inci Eviner's drawings and the poetic texts she wrote between 2023 and 2024. Known for her multidisciplinary practice-including drawing, video, performance, sculpture, and installation-Eviner invites readers into an intimate dialogue between image and word. Each text responds to a drawing, revealing the inner landscapes that inform her evolving visual language. Drawing lies at the core of Eviner's artistic process, serving both as a means of unconscious expression and a space for conceptual inquiry. Her lines trace the tensions between the personal and the collective, the psychic and the political. Through this artist's book, she extends her creative process into a shared textual space, inviting readers to engage with her world. Enriched by the artist's own design concept, the book explores how drawing can challenge dominant forms of social, historical, and discursive representation. AUTHOR: Inci Eviner (b. 1956, Ankara; lives and works in Istanbul) works with drawing, video and performance. Her works often begin with drawings and evolve into complex pieces that explore diverse visual languages, including art history, mythology and contemporary symbols. She represented Turkey at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 and was the subject of a major retrospective in 2016 at the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art. Eviner's solo exhibitions include the Drawing Center, New York (2015); Espace Chatelain, Brussels (2013); Musee d'Art, Paris (2011); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2009); MAC/VAL; and Vitry-sur-Seine (2009). Group exhibitions and biennials include the British Museum, London (20192020); Hayward Gallery, London (20182019); Liverpool Biennial (2018); Q21 Exhibition Space, Museums Quartier Wien (2018); Gwangju Biennial (2018); Municipal Museum of Jena (2018) and the 13th Istanbul Biennial (2013). She received the Sharjah Biennial 13 Prize in 2017. The artist has been invited to artist residencies, including Rauschenberg Foundation, Florida (2017); SAM Art Projects (2010); and Leube, Salzburg (2005). Eviner's works have been included in international collections such as the Deutsche Bank Collection, Centre Pompidou Paris, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim New York, and TBA21 Vienna. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. 100 Munch'tan Sonra | After Munch accompanies Sarkis' exhibition 85 Screams: After Munch held at Dirimart Dolapdere in 2023. Marking the artist's 85th birthday, the book features photographic reproductions of 100 oil-on-paper works created between November 2014 and January 2015. Titled 100 Screams: After Munch, this powerful series draws inspiration from the iconic figure in Edvard Munch's The Scream, an image that has haunted Sarkis since childhood and echoed throughout his oeuvre. Eschewing brushes, the artist applies white and red oil paints directly from the tube to paper, capturing the raw immediacy and velocity of a scream. Produced shortly after the works were made, the photographic reproduction by the artist emphasise their shifting presence over time and across geographies. Spanning the years from Sarkis' birth in 1938 to the present and beyond, this autobiographical publication offers a visceral reflection on artistic memory, trauma, and transformation through one of modern art's most enduring motifs. Text in English and Turkish. AUTHOR: Starting his journey with painting, Sarkis expanded his interest to include sculpture and audiovisual installations. He uses a variety of techniques and material from photography, video, to painting, sculpture, stained glass, and neon lights. In his hand, a neon sign may take the shape of letters, sometimes a poem or a watchword, in other cases an angel or just its wings. He combines the intellectual tradition of Western and Eastern cultures which have been historically excluded, addressing issues of time, memory, and identity. Many of his works refer to a dramatic moment in the history of humankind such as war. Kriegsschatz is a key concept in his art, a German term referring to war spoils; as an act of irony, he de-contextualises and gives new meanings to objects such as a cut hand or a bullet: Those objects are transformed to reflect memory opening to future and related feeling of triumph, suffering, and perhaps shame. Sarkis is awarded the 1967 Prix de la Peinture a la Biennale de Paris and the 1991 Grand Prix National de Sculpture. SELLING POINTS: . 100 - Munch'tan Sonra | After Munch accompanied Sarkis' exhibition 85 Screams: After Munch held at Dirimart Dolapdere in 2023 .
