Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good+. 285pp. At foot of title page: "Horizon Press [HP logo] New York 1954", over which is affixed a 4" x 1/2" white label, bearing this: "LONDON: DENNIS DOBSON 1956"; copyright page cites Eric Bentley as holding the copyright, 1954; the Library of Congress Catalog Number; and the following: "Manufactured in the United States of America/ by H. Wolff, New York/ Designed by Natasha Sylvester"; NAP. Would appear to be a Horizon Press genuine First Edition, with later dustwrapper (with 'Dobson' in red at foot of dw spine) and Dobson sticker affixed over the original Horizon provenance. A bookseller's sticker adorns the bottom inside front cover: "KINGSTONS LTD / RHODESIA", so it is possible that this copy came from Rhodesia, but was not to be sold there except through the auspices of a British publisher, which Dennis Dobson provided. "Afterthoughts" [de facto Notes on a few pages of text], pp. 273-278; "List of Works Criticized", pp. 280-284; "Acknowledgments", p. 285. Black cloth with brilliant gilt-stamped lettering on spine (dustwrapper did its job); front cover corners and rear cover top left corner are sharp with merest hint of curls; rear cover lower left corner bumped with slight residual creases, though still essentially square; top edge slightly age-toned with a very few foxing specks; fore-edge has a very few foxing specks, but only along the thin line of fore-edge from pp.249-285; superficial, small simultaneous nick to two pages at the fore-edge: p.189/190 and p. 191/192; some pencil indents on ffep, evidently bookseller's notation concerning price, with faint red indent that looks like '12/6', with matching superficial, faint red line across lower edge: Describes much worse than it is, but peccadilloes create book's charm. Light gray dustwrapper price-clipped (lower right front panel), with title lettering in crimson over top half front cover, subtitle in green in a column at lower center, author name in larger green letters across bottom front cover. DW spine sunned to brown, but the red and green lettering are still sharp and distinct; a small rectangular turquoise sticker appears to be placed over the HP logo; 'DOBSON' appears in crimson across lower spine; spine ends chipped; small chips or wear at cover corners and along lower rear cover edge for about 2" [now backed by archival tape]: NO corresponding harm to artifact at those locations: dw did its job: Now in Brodart mylar which forgives these sins graciously. Strong binding (NO cracks); NO rubbing wear to book proper; NO previous owner names. Clean text. Solid copy. The way you want to read a drama classic by a distinguished critic.…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, price clipped, no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age. 141pp. To the man in the weird bubble car, its design was only part of the nightmare. He dabbed and pulled frantically at strange things like paddles, saw the winding road swinging and twisting in front of him, tried to turn a corner, but didn¿t make it. When he awoke, the Earthan remembered the madness of that speeding chase, yet he knew the worst of it was his inabiity to recall who he was, where he was, and why he was being chased. Then a lulling voice spoke inside his head 'You are on Kalmed, I'm Aporia. Your people say you've killed one of my fellow Kalmedans'. Somehow the Earthan knew he was no murderer, but he sensed something chillingly unfamiliar in the interaction of his mind and the body it inhabited. A young man finds himself at the wheel of a speeding vehicle on an alien world, not knowing how he got there or, more importantly who he is. When he crashes, he is found and rescued by one of the indigenous humanoids, Aporia an artist of sorts. The world is Kalmed, where a small community of humans live. The young man, a spacer called Jim Hart, has it seems been accused of murdering one of the native inhabitants. The Kalmedans have certain psi powers and Aporia senses that there is something not right about the man she has rescued. Not only can he remember nothing of what he has done or who he is, he seems to have a personality that does not belong in the body it is inhabiting. The plot thickens when the young man is taken in by what serves as the Kalmedan authorities, is sprung by his former shipmates whom he does not recall. He and Aporia then go on the run. She has realised that she needs to take him on a journey across her planet in order to prove her suspicions to herself and her people. Phillifent employs the device of the amnesiac hero cleverly here as the alien planet is seen through the eyes of someone who has, to all intents and purposes, forgotten all he has experienced of it. The reader and Jim Hart are therefore introduced to this world together. It's also a murder mystery of sorts, although the concept of murder and the question of who, if anyone, has been murdered, become somewhat fluid by the time one reaches the denouement. John Thomas Phillifent ( pseud John Rackham, 1916-76), was an English electrical engineer, author of science fiction and fantasy and writer of some of the 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.' tv series. Classic early sci fi. Jacket by Richard Weaver (ilustrador).…

The so called 'four letter words' (you know which words they are.) are printed in full, skirts are even shorter than they were in 1926, sexual behaviour, so far as can be judged, is less restricted by taboos and prejudices than at any other time in our history. But are we really in the midst of a permanent revolution in manners? The author of 'Mrs Grundy' thinks not. His book is a detailed and absorbing study of English prudery (which he defines as interference, organized or unorganized, in other people's pleasures) as it has found expression in various fields since the Middle Ages. Jacket by George Stock (ilustrador). …
