When Andy Warhol arrived in New York City from Pittsburgh in the early 1950's he had little money, no name recognition and few acquaintances. He did, however, possess a keen sensibility, a fresh eye and ambition. Quickly he earned considerable distinction for his whimsical and lithe illustrations, which graced the pages of life-style magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, and were used in the advertising campaigns of clients including Tiffany & Co. and I. Miller and Sons, among others. This book features some of his first gold and silver foil renderings, rubber-stamp drawings and early erotic portraits. These illustrations are accompanied by an introduction and extensive chronology of the events in this pivotal period of Warhol's career, from 1949-1960.
