Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Aging cowboy Rhue Hogan can't remember falling off the wild mare, but the leg cast and burial of his best friend are enough to send him back to New York City to find the son he's never met. Meanwhile, as Rhue rides the train east, his son, 40 year-old Ford Hogan invites Evie Newton, a young woman he barely knows, to travel to New England to explore his Puritan roots on his mother's side. As Ford and Rhue chase their private demons, a midget psychic, two juvenile delinquents, a boy fisherman, and a cynical detective come to the rescue. Entranced by a desire to love and be loved, but scared of commitment, both father and son dance around the possibility of redemption until they discover that heartfelt words have the bower to build bridges.…

Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Based on a true story. A mother's worst nightmare, Lacy Kellam's three month-old son Danny stops breathing one June morning in 1969. The doctors never tell her what caused his seizures or the permanent brain damage that follows. For three and a half decades government-mandated vaccinations have sent thousands of infants into seizures and encephalitic shock, leaving many brain damaged and handicapped for life. Danny Kellam is one of those babies. Lacy, though, takes her grandmother's mountain wisdom to heart and never gives up seeking an answer. Engaging and upbeat despite childhood poverty and abuse, Lacy manages with feisty determination and quick humor, to hold her own against the seasoned Justice Department lawyer. A tale of courage and perseverance, White Lies offers understanding and hope to the myriad families who live with vaccine-injured children.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The Nearest Poem Anthology is not a hit parade of poems, nor is it a selection of our most popular poets. Once a poem is written, the poet recedes powerless to do more and the poem must rely on a reader for its survival. It is the reader s response to a poem that guarantees its life. The anthology is, therefore, a testament to the multiple lives of poetry, its constant reincarnation. A poem may remain dormant for a while decades, even centuries and then someone picks it up, takes it to heart, finds in its words and nuances echoes of a personal experience. And the poem finds a new birth. Most readers probably have several nearest poems, poems they have approached intimately, tangibly, at different moments of their lives. For the purpose of this anthology, all contributors selected and submitted only one. From the classics to contemporary authors, The Nearest Poem Anthology is a collection of over 100 poems that touched the lives of Virginians, along with an essay they wrote to share their response to the poem, how the poem has been reborn in them. Some poets are represented through several poems: Dickinson, Frost, Longfellow, Donne. It is interesting to see how great poetry drops barriers, how the same poet speaks personally, even intimately, to very different readers. To take Dickinson, for example, the anthology has five of her poems with five corresponding essays. The readers are a U.S. senator, a college professor, a Methodist minister, a twelve-year-old 7th grader, and a retired teacher. This range is further evidence of the word s power to suggest, rather than define. (Excerpt from the Introduction by Sofia M. Starnes, Poet Laureate of Virginia, 2012-2014).…
