Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Carol Corsa always looks forward to taking Mrs Townsend fruit picking, but one day the trip is very nearly ruined when an angry tractor crashed into her in a narrow country lane. Luckily, the only thing damaged is one of the baskets of fruit on her back seat, and the driver of the tractor is so kind and helpful that Carol even manages to forgive his spiteful vehicle. Later Carol is delighted to find herself being joined by a new friend, Mickey Morgan, and looks forwards to new adventures. Four stories complete this first volume, filling in details of Carol's and Mickey's life with their owners the Townsends, and describing some of their adventures. Many of the incidents are based on events in the author's own life, giving an authentic flavour to the stories. The setting in Worcestershire is realistic, too, being the area in which Claire Rosemary Jane grew up. Parents and children alike will be attracted to these stories, in which the cars have characters of their own and can talk to each other, though not to humans - an unusual slant on a familiar type of book. Like the Rev. Awdrey's tales, these are morally sound, though the points are unstressed. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. A Hansom Cab, a Fishmonger's Cart and a Three-Horse Omnibus are among twenty-seven enchanting sketches of horses and carriages made in 1873 by William Francis Freelove. For the amusement of himself and his family, Freelove created a series of lively watercolours of over 70 contemporary horsedrawn vehicles. However, it was not until 100 years later, after lying neglected in an attic among an assortment of family jumble, that his charming collection was discovered and fully appreciated. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. David Attenborough first established his current reputation on television with his Zoo Quest series, and these original accounts of his travels proved him to be an excellent writer and a gifted and amusing story teller. This edition brings together, slightly abridged, his descriptions of three journeys - to Guyana where he explored the broad savannahs of the Rupununi, the creeks and swamps of the coast, and the remote forest reserve of the Amerindians; to Indonesia in search of the Komodo dragon; and to Paraguay to seek, among other animals, the elusive giant armadillo. The book abounds with superb vignettes of bizarre characters - Mistah King, the mermaid fisherman; the shanty singers Lord Lucifer and the Great Smasher; Comelli, the wandering jaguar hunter; and the fat, jolly Gertie who claimed she has a 'highly nervous psychological disposition'. The author also tells, disarmingly, of the hardships of the journey by launch and canoes up the rivers of South America, of his travel by horseback through the parched, inhospitable Chac of Paraguay, sometimes swamp and sometimes desert, and of a hazardous voyage by prau under the captaincy of a gun-smuggler. At all times the author shows his acute powers of observation, his irrepressible sense of the ridiculous, and his gift as a brilliant raconteur. No one has written more entertaining travel books, and this collected edition, superbly illustrated by photographs, will be hugely enjoyed for its evocative descriptions of animals, people and places. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This is a book of thirty six true accounts of the friendships that developed between German prisoners of war and their 'enemies' during their captivity. The stories, which are moving, humorous and incredible, are set mostly in Britain but also take place in the USA and Canada. Many of the friendships formed continued long past the end of the War and extended into the next generations. In contrast with many books on war, this book shows what happened when people came face to face with their so-called enemies. The results were surprising. This book shows that friendships offered and received can transcend the hatred and disillusionment of war, and that lasting relationships between individuals can contribute to the long-term reconciliation between countries formerly at war. Including over 170 personal photographs and illustrations, including a colour picture section, this title will be of great interest to those who live in the many specific locations mentioned, both in the United Kingdom and abroad (Germany, US, Canada) and will appeal to those with German connections. It will attract students of war and military history, particularly the generation who lived through WWII. The Germans We Trusted also has a specific Christian appeal as the motivation for many was the command to 'love your enemy'. 'Pamela Howe Taylor's book . shows in three dozen personal stories how individual German prisoners of war managed to establish relationships of trust and friendship.' From the Foreword by Douglas Hurd. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
