Full-Leather. Condición: Good. Reprint. Later edition from 1771 in five volumes but missing volume V: I (311pp including essay), II (300pp), III (340pp) and IV (335pp). Contemporary full leather binding. The title and volume number panels have been lost on all the volumes. The volume numbers are stamped on the spines. The spines have chipping at the tops and bottoms with some vertical cracking to the surfaces. There is also little cracking to the edges - the binding is firm with the exception of volume I where there is a gap along the top half. The corners are bumped with some rubbing and fraying and there is some light surface wear to the front and rear panels. Name of a previous owner in ink to the title pages - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge - and there is the name of an earlier owner above this. Browning and some spotting to the endpapers. Volume I has a little more wear to the spine than the other volumes and there is a little edge creasing and tearing to the fold-out illustration of Troy. Volume II has two pages which protrude slightly with some edge wear. Volume III has quite heavy staining over half the surface of the front panel and a large stain which affects the top half of the pages through to page 30 and then diminishes gradually through to page 150 with these pages only a little affected. There is also a little creasing to the top corners of pages 77 to 86. Volume IV has an eight page section of the text which protrudes a little with some edge creasing. There is light browning to the pages with some spots and marks in places and in particular to the pages at the front of the books but the pages are otherwise generally unmarked. Heavy item due to it being four volumes so there will be an additional postage charge for overseas orders.…

There are two bookplates inside each volume, each with a history attached to the owners. The first is E. Dennison, being Eduardo Denison. There is a Latin inscription to him in Volume I "Egregio Juveni Eduardo Denison Coll: Oriel: Supt. Ord. Commensali, Publica Examinatione In Litenis humaniovibus Primam Clafsem Adepts. D. D. Praepositus et Socii Osielenses. MDCCCXXII". It appears that this set was a gift for passing an exam of importance. In 1868 Argentina, Eduardo Denison, along with Octavia Hill, created Labor Centers, Worker's Clubs and Schools to help free those in poverty, banishing the systems of handouts in favor of work. He also worked with UNESCO, analyzing the influence of Education in the economic growth of a country. The second bookplate, being armorial, bears the name of W. Harry Rylands (1847-1922) a prolific author, Secretary to the Society of Biblical Archaeology, specializing in Oriental Archaeology and the Hittite Language. He also designed a fount of Hittite type, with this just touching upon his extensive activities in the fields of literature and antiquities. After The Suppression Of The Rebellion They Travelled With The King To Woodstock. In 1498 He Was One Of The Assessors Of A Subsidy Levied To Finance The War In Scotland. In 1501 He Was Again Elected Master Of The Drapers. In 1503 He Resigned His Office Of Alderman On The Ground That He Lacked The Financial Resources To Support Election As Lord Mayor. He Is Best Known As The Author Of The Work Commonly Known As Fabyan's Chronicle, Which Presents 'Parallel Histories Of England And France', And Covers The Period From The Arrival Of The Legendary Brutus Of Troy In England To The Death Of Henry Vii. Two Manuscripts Are Extant (Holkham Hall, Ms 671, And Bl, Cotton Ms Nero C.Xi), And Although These Are Not In Fabyan's Hand, It Is Almost Certain That The Text Is His. The Chronicle Was Initially Printed Without Attribution By Richard Pynson In 1516 As The New Chronicles Of England And France, But An Edition Of 1533 Printed By William Rastell Bore Fabyan's Name On The Title Page: Fabyans Cronycle Newly Prynted. Both John Bale And John Stow Described The Chronicle As Fabyan's Work, Although According To Mclaren, Stow Also Wrongly Attributes To Him The Manuscript Of The Great Chronicle (London, Guildhall Library, Ms 3313), Likely Because Both Fabyan's Chronicle And The Great Chronicle Are Written (Or Copied) In The Same Hand.
