Paperback. Condición: Very Good. '.Washed flat and almost clean by the ebb of the tide, the sand is bare except for a single set of footprints. And - why are we not surprised? - there he is again, ahead of us, waiting. Although it is barely dawn, there is light enough to see his face, recognise his smile. The shadows have gone, for this in-between time, anyway. When he speaks, we know his voice although we cannot place his accent. Five words; a question: "What do you really want?"' Some people like to be taken on mystery tours; others prefer to have a clear idea of where they are going, and why, and how long it will take, and where they will stop for lunch. This book is, in some ways, a bit of a mystery tour, inspired in part by (although in no way claiming parity with) classic Christian dream texts such as Pilgrim's Progress, Piers Plowman and The Great Divorce, and also by the whole rich tradition of storytelling as a way of exploring aspects of faith and truth. It begins in a city, evoking the stress and demands endemic to life in today's busy, predominantly urban culture. It also ends in the same city, but this city now reverberates with a little of the imagery of the city of God, the new Jerusalem, which scripture promises us is our final home. In between, the narrative takes us to explore a curious yet safe place, a mysterious house of many rooms where questions can be asked, experiences shared and the search for healing begun. Using story, reflection on Bible passages and quotations for further thought from a range of Christian writers, the trajectory of the book is from emptiness and despair to certain hope, from confusion through penitence to the great joy of forgiving and receiving forgiveness. A constant theme is the interplay between God's unmerited grace and mercy and our human failings; at the heart of the story is the meaning of love - on the one hand, our hunger for it and our often weary search to find and secure it, and on the other hand, God's breathtaking love for us, his children, expressed supremely in the birth, life, sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus. The good news that we have been given to share is that the world's hunger for love can be met only in God's neverending embrace. Before that hunger can be understood, however, one question must be pondered and eventually answered: what do we really want? What do you really want? It is time to begin. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The world waits - sometimes holding its breath in fear of what tomorrow may bring, sometimes in a haze of busyness, or boredom, in which we hardly know what we are waiting for. Yet we still wait in hopefulness. The birth of a baby invariably stirs deep wells of hope in the human heart. Perhaps in this generation, things will get better. Perhaps this child will make a difference. As we approach the Christmas season we prepare to celebrate the coming to earth of someone who really does make a difference. At this season the 'windows' of our human experience can change from rows of faceless panes, perhaps grimy with dirt, into lighted windows that open up new possibilities and coax us into a place where rejoicing might be possible. The journey mapped out in this book is an invitation to look into some of these lighted windows, and discover a few reflections of what we wait for, and long for - reflections of God's guidance, his call to trust him and live by his wisdom. Each window seeks to bring familiar scripture into focus with everyday living, encouraging us to enter right into the place where God is coming to birth, and to make the experience of Bethlehem our own. And finally, the windows become doors, through which we are sent back to a waiting world to share our personal experience of God-with-us. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This is a wonderful companion for Lent by Bishop David Walker. It is short but deep, and engages the reader in both prayer and reflection. A perfect way to explore what it means for all of us to belong to Christ in a challenging world. Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury Every day during Lent Bishop David Walker invites us to look afresh at a Biblical character or saint. We gain new insights into their lives. He helps us journey through Lent with a deeper knowledge of how much God loves and treasures us. God reminds us You are mine. David draws on his experience as an ordinary member of a family and a friend, a theologian and a Bishop. Gods desire is for us to belong to Jesus and to each other. The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu 'Again and again, as I have sought to look into both the scriptures and my own life, I have heard in the silence the one who assures me, ever more strongly, 'You are mine'. My hope and prayer is that you who read it will hear something of the same.' At this time of Lent, David Walker explores different aspects of human belonging through the medium of scripture and story in order to help us recognise the different ways in which we are Gods beloved. And as we recognise ourselves and our own lives in the narrative of Gods engagement with humanity and his creation, he gently challenges us to engage for Gods sake with Gods world. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. There is much talk today of 'new ways of being church' and 'new monastic spirituality'. As Simon Reed explored the Celtic roots of the Christian faith, in community with others who drew inspiration from our spiritual ancestors in the British Isles, he came to realise that the third millennium church has much in common with the first millennium church, and more importantly, much to learn from it. In Creating Community, he introduces us to a new but at the same time very old way of being church which is based upon three core elements: a Way of Life, a network of Soul Friends, and a rhythm of prayer. The book shows how the rediscovery of these elements by Christians today offers a vital key that opens up an ancient way for modern churches, one which not only helps to bring believers to lasting maturity but creates genuine and much-needed community in an increasingly fragmented world. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The Advent and Christmas season is one we associate with both darkness and light - the darkness as the days draw in, and the light of candles, of hope, the flame of our faith stoked up by the birth of Jesus. A Handful of Light, the BRF Advent book for 2008, is based around the themes of hope, light and darkness in the Scripture. Looking at how what we believe in makes us feel, it has daily Bible readings and reflections for every day from December 1st to January 6th, but can also be used at any other time of the year for those who wish to delve deeper into their relationship with God. A Handful of Light is ideal for those looking for their first Advent book, or for those looking particularly for devotional material. This book also contains questions for reflection at the end of each reading which can be used as the basis for a group discussion. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Mark's Gospel is the shortest of the four first-century books telling the story of Jesus of Nazareth, yet it is the most vividly told. Mark shows the disconcerting influence of Jesus on his often bewildered disciples, and how their world was turned upside down by the revolutionary values of the kingdom of God. He writes of eager crowds and impressive miracles, of dramatic confrontation with opponents both human and demonic, building towards the final showdown in Jerusalem, where the cosmic drama of death and resurrection is played out. About the series: The People's Bible Commentary covers the whole Bible with an approach that presents scholarly insights in straightforward terms, aiming to instruct the head but also to warm the heart, and pointing to how the truths received can be applied personally. It is a valuable resource for all who regularly preach scripture, for those wanting to venture deeper into personal Bible reading, and for study group leaders. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Luke's Gospel contrasts with the other Gospels - the energy of Mark, the mystical poetry of John, the Jewish focus of Matthew. Writing with the historian's eye for narrative detail, he stresses how acceptance of Jesus' message means a complete reversal of worldly standards of success and how we need to share God's passion for the poor and excluded. Throughout his Gospel he also drops hints to remind his readers how the message of salvation will spread beyond the people of Israel, as he shows in his second volume, the Acts of the Apostles. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. This book is for busy teachers and church leaders who have endless demands on their time and energy and need stories that jump off the page, into the imagination and, from there, into daily life. Drawn from all four Gospels, the pieces are 'unplugged' in that they get into the heart of the biblical text, reflecting the life of Jesus in action: who he is, what he said and what he did. Some tell the story, some explore an aspect of the original account. Many pieces include children. Each piece comes with a short introduction of open-ended questions to encourage further exploration of the original story and the relevant Bible passage for reference. Some pieces are meant to be performed, some to be enjoyed quietly; but the overall aim is to have fun and enjoy unplugging the Gospels! Includes photocopy permission. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. "Stories for Interactive Assemblies" contains ten vibrant retellings of popular parables, such as "The Two Builders and The Official who Refused to Forgive". But these are retellings with a difference. Primary children of all ages will recognise themselves and their classmates in the stories and relate to the essence of the parable. Each story is followed by suggestions for questions, designed to get the children thinking and talking about some of the issues raised by each one. Each assembly outline is topped and tailed by a theme to help direct the teacher towards the main teaching objective of the story, and a prayer or reflection and suggested song to close the assembly if desired. Each unit also contains a teacher's page giving the Bible reference for the original parable and information to link the teaching to PSHE/Citizenship and the National Framework for RE or local SACRE guidelines. Paperback. Condición: Very Good. 'Don't follow me. Follow Jesus!' runs a popular slogan. Yet the apostle Paul wrote, 'Follow my example, as I follow Christ.' Can we hope to echo Paul's words, or should we always be pointing away from ourselves to Christ? This book considers four of Jesus' commands to his disciples as the basis for four models of leadership in the church which may be appropriate in different seasons of ministry: come (a pastoral approach), follow (inspiring by example), wait (faithful in obedience), go (evangelistic and mission-focused). Above all, Andrew Watson concludes that developing individual character and discipleship is an essential aspect of leadership in the church. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Paperback. Condición: Fair. A readable copy of the book which may include some defects such as highlighting and notes. Cover and pages may be creased and show discolouration. Blake, Francis (ilustrador).…
