It is a detailed, first-hand account of traditional Kimberley Aboriginal life, covering detailed descriptions of kinship systems and social organisation, beliefs in child-spirits, sacred ceremonies, naming traditions, and funeral practices, methods of hunting, food gathering, fire-making, and housing. Love served as a Presbyterian minister at the Kunmunya Mission and became a respected authority on the tribe's language and customs, and translated the Gospels into Worrorra and Pitjantjatjara. These scientific voyages also included stops in Japanese-controlled Korea and China, as well as stop in Russia, and Japan itself. Hutchison (1889-1982) was a noted artist, naturalist, studied horticulture, and later explored Iceland, Greenland, along with expeditions to Alaska, and Arctic Canada collecting specimens and seeds.
