(on). McKenney is best known for his magnum opus: "History of the Indian Tribes of North America" which was co-authored with James Hall and released from 1836-1844. The present book was published in 1827. In 1826 he traveled in company with Lewis Cass, Gov. of Michigan through the Great Lakes, and describes the journey as well as First Nations met along the way, their customs, etc., and the treaty negotiations between the United States and the Chippewa, Menominee and Winebago tribes. "In a series of daily letters, McKenney describes the minutiae of travel on his 529-mile trip, reflects on lake scenery and Ojibway lore, and relates his experiences with red people, Marginally relevant - in spite of travelling down the Great Lakes with Canadian voyageurs and Indian Guides, McKenney never set foot on Canadian soil. His descriptions of lakeside villages nevertheless add to a sense of Canadian scenery." Waterson. p45.

Añadir al carritovery good large red cloth, black and white photos throughout, and with valuable text descriptions of the flood and rescue efforts. ROMANELLI, CARL J. / GRIFFITH, WILLIAM M., ed. . The wrath of Agnes; a complete pictorial and written history of the June, 1972, flood in Wyoming Valley (Pennsylvania). Compiled and edited by Carl J. Romanelli and William M. Griffith. Wilkes-Barre, Pa.: Media Affiliates, 1972, 200pp., . This book is dedicated to the thousands of volunteers who fought a valiant battle to hold back the roaring waters of the Susquehanna River on June 23, 1972. Although the battle was lost and the river became a monster laying to waste almost everything in its path, those who fought to contain it have carved for themselves lasting gratitude in the hearts and minds of every resident of Wyoming Valley. When it became certain the Susquehanna no longer could be controlled and the order was given to clear the dikes, many volunteers shed tears upon the sandbags they had labored to fill and stack along the levees. When the river spilled over the dikes and broke through sending 14 trillions of gallons of water rushing into the residential and business areas, a new and even more laborious task faced the dike volunteers. They now turned to rescue and evacuation operations and mobilized to aid Wyoming Valley during what President Richard M. Nixon called "the greatest natural disaster in history." At the time of the flood and in the days and weeks after the water went down, the volunteers joined state, national, city and municipal governments to help whenever and wherever they were needed. They helped the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the military and others rushed to the Valley at a time of sinister peril. To the teenagers, the young adults, the older persons, to police and fire departments of all the flood-stricken areas and to the government leaders and thousands of others in every walk of life who banded together in a common purpose during a time of high and constant danger and heart-wretching personal loss, the publishers of this volume humbly pass on a ''well done" and "God bless you all.".
