Card covers, stapled spine. Condición: Near fine in wraps. First Edition. 18 x 18cm 48pp near fine exhibition catalogue showcasing the work of Amancio d'Alpoim Miranda Guedes, architect, sculptor, painter, and many other things.According to the architect's website: ' He is known familiarly to many people as Pancho Guedes. He was born in Portugal in 1925 and spent most of his very creative life in Mozambique, where he made more than 500 designs for buildings, most of them built there, but some built in Angola, in South Africa, and in Portugal. For this and other reasons he is less well known than he ought to be in the rest of the world. His exuberant, eclectic, complex and thoughtful buildings and projects have been published occasionally, but they were so far from the post-war US-led commercial multinational styles in architecture that they have not been sufficiently recognised for their quality and originality. His visual imagination absorbed every influence, from the art of Africa to the Surrealists, and synthesised them into a style which is recognisably his own, however varied the results appear at first glance. He was a post-modern 20 years before the term was invented, and he is still very active, working in Portugal now, inventing new buildings, painting and sculpting out a home on a steep hillside near Sintra in Portugal.

Paperback. Condición: Very good in wraps. 22 x 22cm 128pp very good catalogue published to coincide with the exhibition held at the Architectural Association London 27 January to 25 February 1995. With texts plus colour reproductions. John Frazer's lecture, like this seminal book of the same name, investigates the fundamental form-generating processes in architecture, considering architecture as a form of artificial life, and proposing a genetic representation in a form of DNA-like code-script, which can then be subject to developmental and evolutionary processes in response to the user and the environment. The aim of an evolutionary architecture is to achieve in the built environment the symbiotic behaviour and metabolic balance found in the natural environment. To do so, it operates like an organism, in a direct analogy with the underlying design process of nature.

Paperback. Condición: Near fine in wraps. First Edition. 28 x 35cm 48pp near fine. Text by Colin St John Wilson with contemporary appreciations by Howard Robertson, Alvar Aalto, Morton Shand and Gunnar Asplund. Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund is an important but neglected figure in the history of early Modernist architecture, whose work, which spanned the transition from the neo-Romanticism of the early years of the century to the full-blown Modernism of the 1930s, reflects in a unique way upon the current debate in architecture. Though much of his work falls clearly into the Modernist camp, his buildings defy easy categorization - each building was thought out anew, in order to establish a unique narrative out of the operational, contextual and figurative requirements - and thus have largely been ignored by established histories of Modernism. This publication attempts to redress the balance by focusing on lesser known aspects of Asplund's work such as the temporary structures designed for the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930, which are documented through rarely reproduced drawings, photographs of the fair by F.R. Yerbury and others, and extracts from contemporary appreciations of the event. In his introduction Colin St John Wilson traces the development of Asplund's work and argues for the importance of the lessons within his buildings for architecture today.
