Hardcover. Condición: As New. Gilbert & George are among the foremost artists of their generation. A collaborative team, they were early to explore performance as an art form, and early to explore the idea that every aspect of daily life could be classed as such. They were early to mingle photography and graphics in a style reminiscent of advertising, and early to address sexual identity in that work. In fact, they were early to do much that viewers now take for granted. Their work has been exhibited worldwide since the beginning of the 1970s, and is either unusually accessible or completely unpalatable, depending on the viewer's mindset. It has attracted both fierce controversy and enormous acclaim, including the 1986 Turner Prize and the U.K.'s slot at the 2005 Venice Biennale. At last, on the fortieth anniversary of their meeting (September 25, 1967, Saint Martin's, London) and on the eve of a major retrospective that will tour six venues around the world-including Tate Modern, the Brooklyn Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the de Young Museum in San Francisco-here is a book that does justice to the scale, depth and ambition of their artistic achievement. Or rather, here are two books: designed and produced by the artists, this luxurious two-volume hardback set, which comes in a customized carrying case with handles, documents every picture the pair has created over the course of their 35-year career. With details and installation views of many significant pieces, it includes 1500 color illustrations. The Complete Pictures will be the most thorough and extensive publication on the artists' work ever assembled. Copublished with Tate Publishing, London.…

Hardcover. Condición: New. The photographs in Richard Misrach's Destroy This Memory are a stark, affecting reminder of the physical and psychological impact of Hurricane Katrina as told by those on the ground, and seen through the lens of a contemporary master. Rather than simply surveying the damage, Misrach--who has photographed the region regularly since the 1970s, most notably for his ongoing Cancer Alley project--found himself drawn to the hurricane-inspired graffiti: messages scrawled in spray paint, crayons, chalk or whatever materials residents and rescue workers happened to have on hand. At turns threatening, desperate, clinical and even darkly humorous, the phrases he captures--the only text that appears in the book--offer revealing and unique human perspectives on the devastation and shock left in the wake of this disaster. Destroy This Memory presents previously unpublished and starkly compelling material, all of which Misrach shot with his 4 MP pocket camera while also working on a separate archive of over 1,000 photographs with his 8 x 10 large-format camera. Created between October and December 2005, this series of images serves as a potent, unalloyed document of the raw experiences of those left to fend for themselves in the aftermath of Katrina. With no essay, titles or even page numbers in the way, the words on these homes, cars and trees offer a searing testament that continues to speak volumes, five years after their original inscription.Richard Misrach (born 1949) is credited with helping to pioneer the renaissance of color photography and large-scale presentation in the 1970s. He has exhibited extensively, and his work is held in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and Art Institute of Chicago.…

Hardcover. Condición: New. This second installment of the Midwest Photographers Publication Project (MP3), also produced in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, presents the work of three emerging artists: Curtis Mann, John Opera and Stacia Yeapanis. In his series Modifications, Curtis Mann collects found photographs that depict conflicts in the Middle East and northern Africa. He then bleaches and scratches the surfaces of these images, removing information to tease new meanings unintended by his source material. John Opera investigates the more uncanny qualities of nature, referencing historical notions of the sublime in landscape and Modernist photography and moving between figuration and geometric abstraction. Stacia Yeapanis' keen attraction to varieties of entertainment and hobbies has led her to explore the simulated-reality computer game The Sims 2 on the one hand and the craft of embroidery on the other, as she stitches television-screen captures of characters in states of alarm and distress. This slipcased edition is an affordably priced and beautifully packaged introduction to three major talents of the new generation in American photography.…
