Unpaginated but 52pp, (6 x 9.75 inches), illustrations by the author. Only Good condition in a Good dust jacket. The covers af the book are warped (bowed), really too bad, because the contents are clean, tight, crisp, bright, no tears or creases, no markings. DJ has a little edgewear, small chips at corners and spine ends. Appears to be signed by the author on the copyright page, with an inscription: "For any of your families and little friends mad enough to read this anecdote about a misunderstood inventor in a hostile world - Ted.".

After a stint in advertising and journalism, Edwin Colin Simpson,(1908 1983) published Adam in Ochre (1951), which sold 56,000 copies in the next twenty years, attracted international attention and popularised the realisation that Indigenous Australians were not dying out.His only novel, Come Away, Pearler, was released in 1952. He then focussed several books on New Guinea Aborigines, including Adam with Arrows (1953) Adam in Plumes (1954),and Islands of Men (1955). In 1963 Simpson became a founding member of the Australian Society of Authors and, after visiting Scandinavia, led the ASA campaign for Public Lending Right, publicising the issue by withholding The New Australia from libraries in 1971. Three years later PLR was achieved; his role was recognised with his appointment as OBE in 1981. Another cause he promoted was the humane treatment of animals.

Cloth. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 51 pp. Some rubbing and small tears to price-clipped dj. 'The themes of the book range from Adam and Eve to ''Typists in the Pheonix Building'', from Hafiz to Shiraz to Shaw Neilson, to the city dawn to the legend of a dark-skinned Endymion of New Guinea; yet in spite of its diversity there is an underlying unity which is aptly summarized in the title, for almost all the poems are concerned, one way or another, with ''the other half''. It is a search for the reconcilement of seeming opposites, for singleness amongst the apparent duality of the universe, which is expressed at its deepest in poems as ''Prayer'', ''Naked Girl and Mirror'', and the title poem in which the apparently divided elements in the psyche ''meet at last . . . and turn into one truth in singleness.'' ' 'Poets are always writing about the sea: / poets are people who want the sea to be real. / Vanities, smuts and despairs are found in the city; / the country is notorious for stupidity; / inland and littoral are glutted with grey humanity; / so poets require the sea, make the sea real.'--from ''Jack Blight.''.
