London: Printed by Andrew Clark, for Henry Brome, at the Gun at the west-end of St. Pauls, 1675. The volume is paginated as follows: [4], 146, [8] p. Lacking the longitudinal half-title sometimes bound at the end. The volume collates as follows: A I8, K7 (Lacking K8) Rubin / Huston 104. Wing D1425 "After Digby's death, three major collections of his medical, culinary and chemical recipes were issued by George Hartman, who is variously described as Digby's steward or "operator" (lab assistant). His compilations from Digby's papers have been traditionally assigned to Digby, although he is not strictly the author. The compilations actually consist of Digby's recipes, those he got from his friends and associates and ones Hartman added." Rubin / Huston Pg. 46. For the Second Edition, the portrait was re-engraved after Cross, dated 1674, the number 2 in 'Aged 62' reversed. Dr. Huston notes thirty-seven recipes were dropped from the first edition, and a frequently added comment "use this with caution," appears. In a fine rebinding. Bound in full close-grained green Morocco, with elaborate gilt stamped decorations to the boards. The spine in six elaborate gilt stamped panels with five gilt decorated raised bands. Gilt stamped lettering in the second compartment from the top. Board edges ruled in gilt with one corner split. The 20th century binding like new except for the one split corner. Inner decorations front and rear boards with wide leather gilt stamped dentelles framing marble paper end papers. With the binders ticket stamped directly into the leather on the inner front board; 'J. Haines. Binder. 137 Islington, Liverpool.' The leaves generally clean with the page numbers occasionally shaved. The last leaf (K7) with repaired paper fault affecting a few letters. The volume measures 15 x 10 x 1.5 cm. Each leaf measures 142 x 95 mm.
