First edition, first printing. 1 of 500 copies. English language. Stapled tan card-stock wrappers. Text with 12 full-color photographs. 8 x 11 inches. 4 oz. 16 pp. Small mark on two pages. Price in pencil on first page. Text clean. Very Good Plus. ISBN: 9780977765560. "A selection of Dan Torop's eloquent and understated photographs is gathered into the book format in 'Skydiving,' A-Jump Books?s seventh publication. Made over the past three years, these images build on Torop?s ongoing use of the natural world to reflect on ideas of estrangement, and the occasional joy that can arise through nuanced moments of reconciliation. In what he describes as 'heavy,' and 'grim work,' these pictures are novelistic in tone, emotional in flow, with moral and psychological dimensions. Torop works with people, animals, and places with which he has a strong connection, thereby grounding the work in experiential reality. Approachable and calmly introspective, Skydiving is less about perfect moments of beauty than of finding subtle feelings and letting them live in a picture.". Torop, Dan (ilustrador).…

Hardcover. First edition. Fine/As New cloth-bound hardcover; no dj as issued. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. "Archive tells a story about vanishing civilizations and the complex relationship between history, knowledge, and power. Shot in Peru, these photographs intertwine decaying manuscripts, an archeological site, and an indigenous agrarian workers' strike. Though seemingly unrelated, the images are directly connected--the workers, concerned about land and water rights, cannot claim ownership to their land without access to the increasingly fragile manuscripts. Meanwhile, the manuscripts in the archives continue to deteriorate at an alarming rate. The archeological site reveals a mysteriously vanquished culture, most likely due to severe drought, the very phenomenon which threatens the indigenous cultures today." Photographs and afterword by Danielle Mericle. From an unnumbered edition limited to 500 copies. 64 pages; color plates throughout; 5.5 x 7.75 inches.…

Wraps. Condición: Near Fine. Limited edition. Limited edition of 500, 2009. SIGNED by Woodard on title page. A Near Fine book. 12mo., unpaginated, bound in publishers stiff grey wraps. Minor signs of shelf wear only, text appears clean and unmarked. These are drawings Woodard made as an undergraduate in 2007 when he was a student in Nick Muellner's notoriously difficult history of photography survey course at Ithaca College. Without a working printer, Woodard chose to hand-draw the flashcards he used as exam study aids. Presented chronologicallyfrom the German scholar Athanasius Kircher's description of a double-chambered camera obscura in 1646 to Thomas Struth's large-scale museum photograph Art Institute of Chicago II, Chicago, dating to 1990the drawings tell the history of photography through humorously reductive, but tellingly successful, reproductions of some of the most iconic images. When compared to their sources some details in Woodard's sketches are exaggerated (Bayard's unnervingly defined abdominal muscles in Self-Portrait as a Drowned Man, 1840), while others are uncannily faithful (crossed legs and the right hand raised and touching the face, in Diane Arbus's Topless Dancer, San Francisco, 1968), but none is thoroughly described.
