Bound in dark blue publisher's cloth with gilt decoration and lettering on frontcover and spine, top edge gilt. Only a slight discolouring of the first fly leaf, otherwise an exceptionally fine spotless copy with a near mint decorated publisher's binding.

London, Halton and Truscott Smith, 1924, in-folio, 38 x 28,5 cm , vii pp + 43 pp + 95 plates of which 16 handprinted photo engravings each with a guard sheet with descriptive letterpress. Bound in publisher's half calf with gilt lettering and decoration of front cover and spine. Printed in 240 numbered copies. Ex-library copy with cancellation stamp on verso of title and some discrete small stamps at some pages. Leather of binding a bit rubbed and with an inventory number in white ink at tail of spine, cloth of binding with some fingermarks but on the whole still a very decent copy of the large-paper edition.

One of 200 numbered copies on hand made paper with the illustrations on japan paper and with an original etching as frontispiece, signed by Cameron ; '' The Lion and the Unicorn''.

Black & white bookplate. 125mm x 88mm . Laid-down to verso of front board of a book. ** "David Young Cameron (18651945) was one of Scotland's most prolific and influential artists. He was born in Glasgow, the son of a minister, and in the early 1880s he went to study at Glasgow School of Art. By 1885 he had gained a place at Edinburgh School of Art, where he was encouraged to take up etching because of the strength of his pen drawings. Although he also made many paintings, drawings and watercolors, it was as a printmaker that he initially received the most recognition. Cameron had a rare ability to capturehis subjects with remarkably few lines. During his career he produced over five hundred etching plates, with subjects ranging from atmospheric interiors to dramatic landscapes, as well as detailed studies of buildings and figures." - See National galleries of Scotland.
