Merely to call the roll of Mrs Robinson's victims reveals the cold-blooded nature of this methodical poisoner. Her husband, her own… two children, her sister, her brother-in-law, a nephew, and a landlord all perished from arsenic administered by her. Most of the family had been insured by the United Order of Pilgrim Fathers, a society whose benevolence was sorely tested by the demands which these deaths placed upon its financial resources. Suspicion seems to have been incredibly slow in arising, but once directed at these deaths the evidence was not long in forthcoming. Arsenic was found in all the bodies, although the police could never trace any poison to Mrs. Robinson. She was tried first for the murder of her son, but the jury disagreed. A second trial, for the murder of her brother-in-law, Prince Arthur Freeman, produced a conviction, a result no doubt due to the court's permitting proof also of the murder of her sister.
