Pianezza in Busto Arsizio" to the verso of the 1st vol's preface on p. [6]), s.d. [ca. 1922-25]. The prefaces to the volumes have it so: "Illustrious architects from the Americas, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, England, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, etc. etc., collaborated on this publication. The illustrations in this volume reproduce important, artistic and typical buildings of these diverse countries: palazzos, churchs, hotels, houses, villas, plants [factories], theatres, banks, pavilions, monuments, public buildings, decorations, interiors etc. etc." "Each volume contains a very interesting collection of 80 projects of Villas and Cottages, 185 illustrations (sections, facades, perspective sketches). These collections are made interesting by the variety of types gathered in them stately villas as well as middle-class and low-class villas [houses]. Whoever wishes to build or have his own Villa or Cottage built, must acquire these volumes being confident that one will find in them, among the various projects, the kind of building which will serve as a starting point for the study of one's own Villa or Cottage, according to one's tastes and needs." FIRST and ONLY EDITION. Square 4to. 3 vols in publisher's pictorial embossed thick cardboard wrappers with central paper onlays to the front covers: [6], 84, [4] pp.; 88, [8] pp.; 87, [5] pp. Nice stamped ex libris on all upper pastedowns. The initial and final unnumbered leaves of each volume contain advertisements relevant to the field of construction, architecture, decoration and interior design. The complete series is rare, especially in excellent condition. The verso of the first volume's title leaf shows a sort of subtitle, that is, "Architecture and Decorative Arts in Italy and Abroad." Then, the content of the publication is illustrated in depth: "An elegant volume of more than 100 pages with 180 illustrations of modern works [projects] [that are] characteristic of the various parts of the world. Illustrious architects from the Americas, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, England, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, etc. etc., collaborated on this publication. The illustrations in this volume reproduce important, artistic and typical buildings of these diverse countries: palazzos, churchs, hotels, houses, villas, plants [factories], theatres, banks, pavilions, monuments, public buildings, decorations, interiors etc. etc. This volume achieves, in this way, a very interesting collection useful to every Architect, Engineer, Developer and, in general, to every student of Architecture and Decorative Arts, who will find a wide range of studies in it." (translated from the original Italian). The preface to the second volume states that the publication of another book of this kind is due to the warm greeting that the first volume received from the public. Thus, the editor Giuseppe Martinenghi and his colleagues have undertaken this compilation of projects, most of which, as the writer points out, were eventually realised.
