B/w vignette and full-page illustrations by the author. Burgundy boards, spine titled in gilt. Slight lean to spine, name and foxing to end-papers, preliminaries and edges. Good-pl…us in slightly foxed and used but complete dust-wrapper. Artist, author, philosopher, and mainly, teacher, W.P. Hodgkinson addresses the question of wellbeing in the post-war era. He discusses life in a rather diffuse way, against the equally diffuse background of "Ridding", a lightly disguised version of his own home village of Shrawley in Worcestershire. "By the age of 21 he was Acting Headmaster of Redditch School of Art, then Headmaster. Then Assistant Master at King Edward's Grammar and Warwick School. Three years as Principal at Truro School of Art were followed by a stint as Principal of Bilston School of Art and Crafts. (The 1939 register shows him living in Bilston as Principle of Bilston School of Art). His interests were in the making and design of stained glass windows, pottery, metalwork, landscape painting, oils and book illustration." (Shrawley Village website). .
