Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author â" a physician experienced in both medicine and agriculture â" argues that the British people were suffering from various illnesses because of improperly cultivated and managed land, in addition to unwholesome food and infectious airs. The author draws on principles established by the medical wisdom of prominent physicians of the past; such as Hippocrates, Galen and Linnaeus whose work he believes has been overlooked and ignored by medical practitioners of his time. The improper management and use of land had resulted in grazing animals and the general public being poisoned by toxic plants and the diseases those plants caused. As a result, the author believed that the people of the time were suffering a large variety of ailments such as indigestion, scrofula, cancer, leprosy, consumption and other problems usually associated with the present day, but absent in the relatively recent past. The author's views were supported by other prominent doctors, such as Pope of Dublin, Lewis of Manchester, Purday of Edinburgh, and Fairbanks of Brazil who also had adopted the author's treatments methods. This book is an important historical document as it highlights the relationship between the health of the British public and the state of their agriculture during the early 1800s, and the foresight of the authorâs views is both remarkable and thought provoking. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
