Rosemary Pardoe, an expert on M. R. James and editor of Ghost and Scholars, describes the novel as a real page-turner, setting a fast pace and that it is full of the details of occult practice. Her summary was Indiana Jones meets H.P. Lovecraft and that the novel would make a great action film script. Mark Valentine, author of many great stories and biographer of Arthur Machen, has also read the manuscript and says that it has all the hallmarks of deep learning, vivid prose and an enthralling plotting. Mark commented that he was sure the novel would be very well received, by a wide range of readers.

Weighell's book links the Holy Grail to a strange "Satanist" painting. Another rare item from Pardoe. This copy has a bit of rust on the staples, else a fine, unread, unmarked copy.

Partially autobiographical, it deals with what might be called the 'Silurian Hypothesis' - the idea that another intelligent species existed on earth before humans evolved. Evidence is slowly uncovered to prove this hypothesis, as we travel nostalgically through the Sixties and Seventies, spending a lot of time hanging out in used bookshops, listening to psychedelic music and investigating the occult. Along the way we meet characters who are (and are not) Austin Osman Spare (Alphonsus Gaunt), Aleister Crowley (Nicholas Hallam), Dennis Wheatley (Hector Campion) and many others. An antiquarian ghost story written specifically for this publisher. Summers, a scholar, comes to Venice to research the life of Sigisomondo Mortensa, the 16th-century architect who designed the Church of Saint Bartholomew. As he studies the marginalia in various books in Mortensa's library, Summers uncovers the horrific truth about Mortensa's relationship with Antonio Borsini, a young apprentice who vanished mysteriously during the church's construction after being publicly denounced for his participation in blasphemous activities. When THE WHITE ROAD first appeared in 1997 in the Ghost Story Press edition, it collected all the short fiction the author wanted to see preserved at that time. In this new Sarob Press edition a few of the minor, or otherwise readily available stories from the original have been left out and 'replaced' by a novella bringing together two of Ron Weighell's most popular characters, 'James Calder-Stuart' and 'Vallance', and taking ideas in its plot from one of the 'lost novels' mentioned in the introduction to the original edition .
