Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP, 1929 on the title page; B. T. Batsford first editions identified by--'to 1959 no later printings mentioned'). 68 pages of text, 4 page unnumbered Index, Color frontispiece, 5 additional color plates, 66 black and white plates on full-page semi-glossy paper, and 66 pages (also on semi-glossy paper) 'devoted to announcements by art dealers, most of whom are owners of Georgian works of art.' These pages bring the book to a close. Once listed, I believe this will be the Only copy for sale with an intact dust jacket (see first three photos). The covers of the book itself are in very nice condition. They are exceptionally clean. I don't see any conspicuous soiling. The gilt design on the front is nicely bright, the gilt lettering on the spine is also nicely bright. There's a little crinkling at the spine ends, the bottom one also has a spot of rubbing. The cover edges look very good. The top corners have only speck-sized spots of superficial rubbing. The front bottom corner has a fairly small spot of rub-through. The page edges look perfectly clean. There is a bump/crease just below the front top corner and another just above the rear bottom corner. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers form a green and white floral decoration. They look very good, though there are a few areas with mild toning. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. I have turned over pretty much all of the pages. They are exceptionally clean. I don't think I saw any soiling at all, certainly nothing conspicuous. That includes all of the illustrations/ plates. There are two pages with a small rectangular shadow just off their top edge, no doubt created by a piece of paper taking up residence there. The only imperfection I'm seeing is a tiny crease just below the tips of the top corners of a large number of consecutive pages. There are no placeholder creases. No markings of any kind. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. I have always had the jacket in a fitted protective cover. In fact it had one when I first purchased the book many years ago. I've just now removed it in order to avoid the glare it will create in the photographs. I will replace it with a new protective cover afterward. I can now tell you that the previous owner placed four small pieces of tape on the inside (hidden) of the jacket. One you can make out at the front bottom corner, the second one is behind the thin tear off the front bottom edge. One is behind the top edge of the spine and the other behind the bottom edge of the spine, neither of those seemed necessary. You can of course see the soiling over parts of the front cover. There is also light wear off the jacket's top edges-- crinkling off the front one and nicks off the rear one. There is a large, neat, clip off the top edge of the front flap. I'm not sure why since the price is off the bottom edge of the front flap. It is intact. There is no other print on either flap. Here are the Contents: Preface by the Editor R. R. Tatlock. Introduction by Roger Fry. Painting by J. B. Manson. Architecture and Sculpture by Geoffrey Webb. Ceramics and Glass by Bernard Rackham. Metalwork by W. W. Watts. Furniture by Oliver Brackett. Textiles by A. F. Kendrick. Minor Arts by Louise Gordon-Stables. …

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1999 Lawrence & Wishart paperback edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. From the cover: What was it about the life and death of Princess Diana that made it resonate in such an extraordinary way across the boundaries of age, class, race, gender and politics that fracture contemporary social life? This special issue of new formations looks at the cultural impact of Diana's death, and at the lessons it offers about the place of celebrity, loss and mourning, authority and legitimacy in popular consciousness, particularly when viewed against the political horizon of new Labour's 1997 electoral victory. The contributors look at the complex circulation of emotion and the politics of affect; the shifts in the cultural meaning of public funerals; the implications of Diana's death for the position of the monarchy within the British constitution; the relationship between the new media publics and media events; and at the contradictory feminisation of modern politics. They argue for the need to move beyond the false alternatives of cynicism and eulogy in order to understand the wider significance of that remarkable phenomenon: 'the people's princess'. Contents: Editorial The cult of celebrity by Jacqueline Rose Disposing with Diana: Diana's death and the funeral culture by Ruth Richardson Unworkable feeling: Diana, death and feminisation by Carol Watts Diana and the constitution: a conversation by Anthony Barnett & Jenny Bourne Taylor The temporality of democracy: the long revolution and Diana, Princess of Wales by Mark Gibson Remembering Diana: the geography of celebrity and the politics of lack by Nick Couldry Violence and the sacred: the iron lady, the princess and the people's PM by Heather Nunn An extraordinary life: the legacy of an ambivalence by Lisa Blackman Alt.conspiracy.princess-diana: the conspiracy of discourse by Clare Birchall Princess: Diana, femininity and the royal by Jude Davies Reviews The Royal 'We' by Rosalind Brunt The politics of mourning by Feona Attwood Fantastic subject by Christine Clegg Naomi Mitchison by Elisabeth Maslen Flora Tristan by Maire F.
