The exhibition celebrated the "Golden Age of Botany" in the Southern Netherlands, a period when Antwerp became the global epicenter for botanical publishing and scientific classification. It highlighted how the Officina Plantiniana transformed botany from a branch of medicine into an independent scientific discipline. The core of the exhibition focused on three legendary physicians and botanists whose works were almost exclusively published by Christopher Plantin and his successors: Rembert Dodoens (Dodonaeus), Carolus Clusius (de l'Escluse) and Matthias Lobelius (de Lobel). Their collaboration created the most influential botanical books of the Renaissance. Many images from their books are reproduced and described in this book as well as numerous photos of woodblocks used to create the prints.
