Añadir al carritoGreen Cloth Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. 1955. First edition. xiv, 226pp., a colour frontispiece, 12 black and white illustrations and a double-page map. This book presents a history of the Dutch navy as viewed through its key leaders from the time of the war for independence from the Spanish through the Glorious Revolution of 1680, with some discussion of the Dutch Navy in the following centuries and its role in the Battle of the Java Sea in World War II. Key figures highlighted include Marten Tromp, Michael de Ruyter, Wit de With, Jan Evertson, and Adrian Bankart. The book is bound in the original dark green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends and patchy loss of colour, probably from damp, to the cloth on the spine. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and rubbing to the edges. The spine ends are bumped with pieces missing from around the spine corners of the bottom of the spine and there is a small piece missing from the bottom rear edge. There are several tears on the edges including one of about 1 1/2" on the bottom front corner. This tear and some of the other tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good ++. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good +. Maps Ilustrador. First Edition. Some time in 1908, some workmen digging road-gravel in a pit near Lewes in the southeast of England, discovered a human cranium. The cranium and its associated materials remained a scientific focus until 1954. It set the science of paleoanthropology on its ear. Read more about: J.S. Weiner, Sussex England, Smith Woodward, British Museum, Father Teilhard de Chardin, and Barkham Manor farm. 120 pages with one b/w map as illustration. The book is strangely apologetic. Cond : Boards are blue with gilt lettering - spine only. End-papers are white. D.J. (now protected in mylar) is black with green lettering. D.J. graphic is a human (ape-like) skull. D.J. has minor edge wear and is nit price-clipped. Attractive little volume of a major scientific hoax. Clean, no marks. Gorgeous collectible ! ! Quote (p. 57) : ` As Dawson had first been handed a small fragment of cranium by the labourer who smashed the `coconut' , as bits were found piecemeal, Dawson and Woodward never bunearthed the skull, could not have got excited about ._._._. ." Size: Octavo.
