Soft cover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. 32 pp. with B/W illustrations. Original 1973 text revised and reprinted in this 1981 edition. Two small red marks on front cover, along with price-tag scar at upper right corner, and 3" scar on lower back cover. "The illustrated artifacts contained within this catalogue are original reprodu…ctions from the material culture of the Canadian Inuit. Though the source of the material is predominantly that of Pelly Bay, the Eastern, Central and Western Arctic regions are also represented. The unique qualities that permitted the Inuit people to develop a material culture from nothing other than stone and the bones of animals, and the awareness that these inherent skills are disappearing, prompted Father Van de Velde to record for posterity such detailed information as is still available on the tools and weapons once used in their daily lives. A project involving the reproduction of historical artifacts from living memory, is by its nature an ephemeral one. But while there still live these men and women who have experienced the traditional way of Inuit life, it provides both income for the senior citizens and an opportunity for those in the anthropological field, to supplement or establish collections from the Inuit material culture." - Eric Mitchell in his preface.

Paperback. Condición: Fair. Revised Edition. "The Eskimo creates a thousand and one things of his daily life. All with the alive quality and exact precision which stems from his living character and intellect. I believe this to be the only secret of a true artist. He has but to remove the excess parts of his model such as stone,… bone, antler or ivory to show us what he has already seen in the abstract. This explains the perfection with which he fashions his working tools and hunting implements. But read through the following pages of this catalogue, read the descriptions, they are convincing by themsleves." - Introduction. Artifacts covered: Blow Hole Hunting Kit; Ikslervik - The Tool Kit; Netjilik Kayak; Bow and Accessories; Kilaut Drum; Kudlik Lamp; Ulu Woman's Knife; Kakvik Needle Case; Unark Harpoons; Annorak Clothes; Perautak Dog Whip; Inukshooks; and more. [32] glossy pages illustrated with black and white photos. Unmarked with somewhat above-average external wear. A sound reference copy. ; 8vo.
