Die Änderungen an den folgenden Modellen waren aber so umfangreich, daß ein völlig neu gestaltetes Buch nötig geworden ist. Dies liegt nun hier vor, so daß auch der Ford 12 M und 15 M ab Baujahr Herbst 1966 ? intern auch P 6 genannt ? zu ihrem Handbuch gekommen sind. Es berücksichtigt alle seitdem neu hinzugekommenen Modell-Varianten, und das sind ja entsprechend dem stark ausgeweiteten Ford-Programm nicht wenige. Am Schluß des Buches findet man übrigens in den Kapiteln »Technische Daten« und »Modellgeschichte« die nötigen Aufschlüsse, um durch den Typendschungel hindurchzukommen. Die Notwendigkeit, ein solches Handbuch herauszubringen, fängt eigentlich schon mit einem streikenden Motor an. Zwar ist die 12 M/15 M-Serie inzwischen ausgereift, aber auch der zuverlässigste Motor ist ? fast möchte man es sagen ? auch nur ein Mensch. Oft wird er launisch, wenn man kurz vor einer wichtigen Fahrt steht. Viele Autofahrer möchten sich nun selbst gern helfen und öffnen tatsächlich auch die Motorhaube. Aber angesichts der vielen möglichen Störungsquellen, die sich jetzt zeigen, geben die meisten Leute ihre Absicht wieder auf. Es ist gut, wenn man den Vorsatz hat, sich selbst zu helfen. Es ist besser, wenn man es auch kann. Das erspart Ärger, Zeit und oft viel Geld. Aber das ist nur eine Seite der Angelegenheit. Wer ein Auto besitzt, wird freundlich, aber nachdrücklich darauf aufmerksam gemacht, daß er regelmäßig zur Durchsicht erscheinen möge ? auch wenn seinem vierrädrigen Freund überhaupt nichts fehlt. Das bedeutet: Man muß viele Umstände auf sich nehmen, wenn man seinen Wagen den Werkstätten anvertrauen soll. Außerdem werden moderne Automobile zusehends komplizierter. Das erschwert Wartung und Kundendienst. Und fast unbemerkt vom Autofahrer steigen langsam und stetig die Arbeits- und Teilepreise an. Unter diesen Umständen kann eine vernünftig vorgenommene Selbsthilfe Zeit, Geld und Ärger sparen. Dieses Handbuch soll dabei die nötige Unterstützung geben. Es ist kein Reparatur-Leitfaden, sondern eine in Richtung Eigenhilfe und Störungsbeistand ganz erheblich erweiterte Betriebsanleitung. Es will aber auch jenem Autofahrer, der nicht unters Blech schauen kann oder möchte, das Rüstzeug für den richtigen Betrieb und Unterhalt seines Wagens geben, auch um Werkstätten gegenüber sachkundiger auftreten zu können. Bei dieser Gelegenheit sei allen hilfsbereiten Leuten, die am Entstehen dieses Buches direkt oder indirekt mitgewirkt haben, herzlich gedankt. Dipl.-Ing.
