This memorial book is an act of homage to the University of Edinburgh for the help it gave during the Second World War to keep alive the light of Polish higher education in one of the darkest periods in the history of the Polish nation. The original plan was to deal only with the Polish School of Medicine but was enlarged by including all the other special educational facilities provided by the University of Edinburgh for the Polish students, and also by adding two chapters about the Scots in old Poland and about Scottish-Polish cultural relations. The book is bound in the original yellow cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and red titling on the front board. There is a black cover design on the front board and small black design on the rear board. There is some wear to the spine with rubbing to the titles. Slight remains of a bookplate to the front pastedown. Small newspaper clipping about the author has been taped to the bottom of the title page.

The contents are tight and clean and the half-title page has been inscribed and signed by the author thus: "Presented to W.? R. Paterson with compliments and kind regards - W.
