First title page has about 25% of an American Legion label remaining with the partial words COOK-N.Post.POINT. Text is in remarkable good condition considering this is a 1929 reprint. The words Six Hundredth Thousand. Book is Dedicated To The Memory of My Beloved Commander Lieut. Col. Charles W. Whittlesey Who Passed On To That Great Beyond November 29th 1921. Whittlesey's picture appears on the fold out along with the Official Photography of the Lost Battalion. Aproximately 50 seperate submissions plus a beginning Tribute, Memorial Address and Foreword and ending with an Afterword. Book Condition: Very Good; the oversize wraps have 1/4" folds around the text; shelfwear to head, tail, and tips. No DJ. Brown card stock wraps. Wraps are bent on the edges; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. The first page has a foldout photo of the Lost Battalion. 138 pp 12mo. This book is a collection of poetry by a member of the "Lost Battalion"; L.C. McCollum, concerning their activity in World War I. The Lost Battalion is the name given to the nine companies of the United States 77th Division, roughly 554 men, isolated by German forces during World War I after an American attack in the Argonne Forest in October 1918. Roughly 197 were killed in action and approximately 150 missing or taken prisoner before the 194 remaining men were rescued. They were led by Major Charles White Whittlesey. A clean very presentable copy.

Fold-out frontispiece is fully intact and in excellent condition. Spine is straight and smooth, with no gaps or other damage to bnding. Copyright page states "Seven Hundredth Thousand". Overall, an absolutely lovely copy of one soldier's tribute to his comrades in arms. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Private Press.
