Añadir al carritoHardcover. First edition. Fine/As New clothbound hardcover in a Fine dust jacket with a hint of shelf wear with the wrap-around promotional belly band which is torn and creased at one fold. All dust jackets are protected by a clear mylar cover. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. Collects two series' of work, tete-beche format (two front covers and two text blocks, one rotated 180 degrees relative to the other): Many Wars which features American veterans draped in cloth blankets with interviews on how the wars have affected their lives; and Soldier, in which young, active duty American soldiers were photographed close up with their heads resting on tabletops. The images from the Soldier series were presented as billboards in nine American cities from 2008 through 2010. Reviewing them for The New York Times, photography critic Vince Aletti wrote: "The posture is vulnerable and startlingly intimate, as if these young men and women were facing someone in bed or on a stretcher. Opton catches soldiers both on guard and off, looking out and inward simultaneously, and we can only imagine what they're thinking, what they've done, and what they dread." Both bodies of work were selected by Martin Paar for the Brighton Photo Biennial in 2010; the book appeared on a number of "Best Photography Books of the Year" lists. Photographs and interviews by Suzanne Opton; essays by Phillip Prodger and Ann Jones. From an unnumbered edition limited to 1500 copies. 104 pages; 39 color plates; 9.75 x 12.25 inches.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: fine. Quarto (12-1/4" x 9-3/4"). (104)pp. Color photo dust jacket with original belly band, black spine lettered in white, over blue cloth stamped in black, with the two volumes bound dos-a-dos. Illustrated with a total of 39 color plates. Signed on the half-title of "Many Wars" by Suzanne Opton. A fine, as new copy. In the two series collected in this volume, Soldier and Many Wars, photographer Suzanne Opton (born 1954) photographs a range of American soldiers close up, with their heads resting on tabletops, and American veterans draped in cloth blankets. The subjects of the Soldier series are all young, active-duty soldiers from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and the photographs were presented as billboards in nine American cities from 2008 through 2010. Reviewing them for The New York Times, photography critic Vince Aletti wrote: "The posture is vulnerable and startlingly intimate, as if these young men and women were facing someone in bed or on a stretcher . Opton catches soldiers both on guard and off, looking out and inward simultaneously, and we can only imagine what they're thinking, what they've done, and what they dread." The project received extensive press coverage and even sparked a heated debate about America's image of the military. The Many Wars series presents portraits of veterans from American wars over the past 70 years. Through interviews by the photographer, we learn how the wars have affected their lives. Both bodies of work were selected by Martin Paar for the Brighton Photo Biennial in 2010. (OCLC).
