Simmer completed his specialist training at the University Women's Hospital in Freiburg, went to the USA in 1960 and was appointed associate professor at UCLA in 1963. He was one of the few i…nternationally recognized scientists and award winners who have done successful and award-winning research in the field of sex hormones, especially placenta hormones. He dealt with the history of endocrinology, obstetrics and gynaecology.
